About Us: Hi-Crush is a leading domestic producer, supplier, and distributor of premium Northern White frac sand used to enhance recovery rates of oil and natural gas from hydraulic fracturing wells.
This position will provide a full time Safety Specialist for regional Hi-Crush divisions for specific HS system assurance, support, development, incident prevention and investigations as well as overall risk management support. The key for this role is to provide leadership and direction in HS programs to ensure the Zero Harm Goal of Hi-Crush by ensuring harm to people, property, processes and the environment are minimized. This position will also support implementation of sound Loss Prevention programs utilizing a hierarchy of controls and prevention philosophy. The position will be responsible for the development and coordination of various Hi-Crush sites and include Health & Safety training (MSHA or OSHA), inspections, coaching, mentoring, and project safety rollout and compliance.
• Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness. • Provide daily guidance and direction in HS programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach. • Regularly conduct training, and / or training needs assessments. • Perform and contribute to the Site Training Plans by conducting employee orientations; emergency response training; and coordination of modular training programs for the construction activities. • Conduct field inspections, audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions. • Maintain all training logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements, and all safety related activities. • Maintain filing system regarding worker training and safety. • Manage, review, assess and / or complete job hazard analysis (JHA’s) or LMRA’s (Last Minute Risk Assessments) with site leadership and ensure that they are communicated, posted and filed. • Maintain and update as needed JHAs for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day to day training. • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected. • Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures. • Coordinate area deficiencies and monthly safety inspections. • Assist in ensuring the Hi-Crush Quarterly Preventative Maintenance Program is in place, functioning and documented. • Ensure that Hi-Crush subcontractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with HiCrush policies and safety requirements.
• Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility. • Establish a proactive safety culture. • Advice, assist, and audit line management to ensure that effective HS Management System is implemented and working. • Encourage personnel and manage the HS positive incentive program. • Encourage leading indicator programs such as near miss reporting, training, inspections and leadership engagement programs.
This position is field related HS activities and is located at various sites. Approximately 80% of work activities will be at specific sites.
Experience and Skill Requirements
• Minimum of five years total construction and mining experience would be an asset • Minimum of three years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety is required • Formal education of at least 2 years in Occupational Health and Safety • Experience with surface drill operations and familiarity with construction activities • Minimum First Aid training • OSHA or MSHA background • Train-the-trainer ability and experience • Excellent written and verbal skills • Intermediate computer skills (e.g. MS Office including Excel and Word) are essential • Must be a team player and committed to zero harm in the work place
• Regular medical screening as outlined in the Company safety program that is position related and consistent with business necessity, will be required. • Safety glasses, hardhat, steel toe boots and fire retardant outerwear must be worn when working around sites. • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds. • Midstream position – 80% travel in PA, OH, TX and CO • PropStream position
