Scope of the Role:

The Hardware Technician will provide site-based and remote system support to the customer in the region. To deploy new and upgraded systems at customers mine sites. To do basic troubleshooting and configuration system software and computer operating systems. To develop procedures and system reports in response to the customer’s requests and needs.

  • To have a strong and broad high-level knowledge of the mining systems deployed.
  • To be a point of escalation for technical issues that the team raise as they are working on projects and to work through the escalation process to seek resolution to problems outside of the responsibility of the Project Engineers and other technical staff.
  • To work with Project Managers to ensure the efficient deployment of mining systems on time and within budget.
  • To ensure that the deployment of systems and products is carried out as efficiently as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Hardware Technician is responsible and accountable for (but not limited to) the following:
  • Defining and reviewing project proposals and plans with colleagues and customers
  • Execution of projects including definition of project phases, elements and schedule;
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, performance standards;
  • Prepare cost estimates;
  • Loading of basic configurations, upgrades and operating systems onto computing; equipment (field and servers) following defined change management procedure;
  • Maintain and control projects following standard project management standards including monitoring of project progress, coordinating activities, and problem resolution;
  • Administer service agreements;
  • Maintain project data base of deployed system and specific configurations;
  • Writing computer programs, entering and backing up data;
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as and when required;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Hardware Supervisor and Project Engineers;
  • Quickly identify business risks, inefficiencies, issues and opportunities related to business applications;
  • Monitor the market for new solutions and recommend solutions that will positively impact the project cycle.
  • To ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with the company’s Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE), Ethics & Compliance policies, etc.
  • Working environment will vary from office to site based and can include working at heights and through challenging environmental conditions including heat, noise, and dust;
  • Protect the company brand and reputation by exhibiting good behaviour and reporting on any noncompliance to safety, procedural, or other customer dictated regulations;
  • Maintain good relations with the customer ‘s personnel and clearly communicate any issues that may arise;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, technicians and engineers;
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve the quality of the systems, installations, and support procedures;

Skill & Experience:

Experience with the application of technology in a harsh industrial environment;

  • Good analytical skills to diagnose problems quickly and excellent customer service skills;
  • Excellent communication skills and sensitive to varying levels of technical competency in clients and the pressures clients may be under while working with malfunctioning equipment;
  • Experience of customer orientated environment;
  • Knowledge of general network infrastructure and configuration and relevant technical experience;
  • Ability to liaise with customers in an empathic and technically effective manner;
  • Ability to work well within a team as well as on own;
  • Documentation, Safety management and Microsoft Office tools;
  • Comply with all health and safety measures in place on the customer’s mine sites;
  • Clearly understand and comply with all the rules and regulations that exist on the customer’s mine sites and seek help if any confusion;
  • Ensure that colleagues comply with health and safety regulations and address any irregularities;
  • Maintain safe environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations;
  • Seek to identify and propose procedures that can improve health and safety in the workplace;
  • Foster an environment that supports technical staff and allows them to succeed;
  • The desire to expand own knowledge and skill set as well as sharing knowledge with other team members wherever possible.
  • Ability to rapidly grasp technical solutions, concepts and products.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Engineering (Computer / Mining / Electrical /Electronic/Mechanical), or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in previous Mining Industry experience of progressive experience in job offered, or as a hardware installation and maintenance technician, or related occupational title.
  • Fluency in English. French is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience working remote teams (Highly Desirable)

Travel:

  • Flexible as the successful candidate would be required to sometimes work on weekends, and travel to different sites with many being outside of the country.
  • Candidate must have a current Passport and valid driver’s license, as well as pass a background check.
