Advertising Account Executive

Job Description

The Advertising Account Executive - Retail for San Antonio Express-News maintains and develops existing advertisers to reach their maximum potential by fulfilling their needs with our digital and print products. They also grow the account base by prospecting and developing new advertisers in a set geographic territory who can utilize our products to increase their business.  The Account Executive meets expected budgeted goals and increases market share.


  • Achieve monthly revenue goals set for sales territory/account list based on previous years history and potential of the territory
  • Develop new business by identifying sales opportunities in the territory
  • Maintain and grow net active account base by making and average of 60 prospecting calls per day
  • Improve existing client relationships and develop strong relationships with new customers that are mutually beneficial in the long term
  • Create marketing presentations using our products to include target audiences, demographics, readership, trends and research, that will illustrate the features and benefits most important to our customers and prospects
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and positive public relations by providing effective marketing solutions, responding to customer requests and concerns in a timely manner
  • Participate in team-based selling
  • Handle process issues from start to finish, including ad order entry, picking up ad copy from clients, ad layouts, ad payment
  • Quote prices and credit terms. Prepare sales contracts. Estimate delivery of service to customers based on knowledge of production schedules and capabilities.
  • Attend sales and systems training, sales meetings
  • Monitor competition and business trends in sales territory. Report changes to sales management
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and deadlines
