Job Title: Sr. Data Engineer

Location: NYC

Full time Role-Hybrid

We're working with a client who is making legal data more accurate, machine-readable, and programmatically accessible than anything that exists today.

We’re looking for a senior software/data engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of data engineering, applied ML, and real-world reasoning systems.

What you’ll work on:

You’ll help design and improve the systems that structure, enrich, and surface legal data, including:

Building intelligent data pipelines that automatically annotate legal documents with relationships (e.g., which cases overrule others, which are appeals, remands, or consolidations). Today, much of this work is done manually by expensive human experts — you’ll help automate it.

Improving core extraction and resolution tools

Designing and running evaluations, both human-in-the-loop and synthetic, to measure data quality and system performance

We expect you to be:

A technical generalist with strong backend skills (full-stack is a plus, but not required)

A data-minded engineer, comfortable thinking statistically and working with messy, real-world datasets

Comfortable moving between software engineering, data engineering, and applied ML

Able to own projects end-to-end: from design → implementation → testing → deployment

Skills & experience (nice to have)

Strong Python + SQL (core stack)

Experience with JS/TS is a bonus

Experience working with both big data and small data

Familiarity with ML/AI, data science, or statistics

Comfort standing up your own infrastructure; production-grade DevOps/MLOps is a plus but not required

Any deep domain expertise (e.g., physics, medicine, radiology, economics, law, etc.) is a bonus
