OpenVMS Administrator

1-2 year contract

HYBRID in NY ( in Queens )

We are seeking a proficient OpenVMS Administrator Contractor to support a key U.S. public sector client located in New York City. This role involves managing and maintaining virtual machine systems using technologies such as C++, C, DECforms, ACMS, and Oracle Rdb, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of critical applications.

System Information:

  • Platforms: OpenVMS 8.3-1H1 (HP Integrity), OpenVMS 8.3 (Alpha), OpenVMS 8.4 (Alpha)

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in system administration in OpenVMS with C++, C, DECforms, ACMS, and Oracle Rdb.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and independently manage tasks.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Proven experience in managing applications and Server , storage etc ( C language and Oracle DB on OpenVMS )
  • Strong understanding of database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in DECforms, ACMS, and Oracle Rdb.
  • Provide daily user support to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth operation of systems.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and perform root cause analysis to address system-related issues promptly.
  • Monitor and tune database performance to ensure optimal operation.
  • Analyze and modify database storage configurations, indexes, and transaction paths to enhance access strategies and reduce fragmentation.
  • Implement monitoring tools to track system performance and health, including CPU utilization, memory usage, and disk space.
  • Generate reports to inform decision-making processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop new documentation and regularly update existing materials to reflect system changes and improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance system performance.
  • Ensure systems are compliant with security standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular security reviews and audits to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
