Copa Innovation Laboratories (“CIL”) is a Walnut Creek, CA based company seeking an entrepreneurial and motived individual with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other similar engineering fields. The individual must have experience designing, engineering and constructing machines and devices in a small shop environment.

CIL was founded in 2016 and is engaged in research, development, sales, service and support of new athletic training tools and devices with an emphasis on equipment that can support data analytics and a quantitative approach to skills development. The primary focus of CIL is to identify, evolve and own sports training products that support best in class data mining and aggregation platforms for different sports.



  • Mechanical Engineer degree, Electro Mechanical degree or similar degree

  • Experience designing, engineering and constructing sports training products

  • Extensive knowledge of machine parts, assembly of parts, machine operation and machine maintenance.

  • Capable of reading and altering AutoCAD drawings.

  • Experience in integrating software packages designed specifically to operate individual devices and machines.

This job is not for chemical or petro engineers.

Position Summary:

You will be a key player in the new product development process (design, systems integration, testing, prototype development) for sports related training and assessment devices.  Responsible for documenting manufacturing processes, evaluating and recommending improvements to manufacturing methods, product designs, operational improvements and servicing standards and protocols.  In addition, this individual will have the responsibility to conduct investigations into process and product failures / complaints and develop and implement the associated process or product design changes for continuous improvement.

Job Duties:

  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

  • Maintains manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.

  • Assures system and product quality by designing and implementing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes and documentation of assembly process.

  • Regularly communicates budget and schedule updates and decision points to supervisors.

  • Maintains product and company reputation and legal status by complying with government regulations.

  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services.

  • Participates in development of maintenance and warranty programs for products.

  • Completes projects by training and guiding technicians as needed.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Other duties as assigned. We are a team oriented work group where positions and responsibilities overlap, ability to collaborate with others, particularly in a start up environment.


    Must have:

    Mechanical engineering degree or similar

    Proficiency with AutoCAD
