Computational Design Specialist
Design Technology | London | Full Time | From GBP £45,000 to GBP £55,000 per year
Grimshaw is an international architectural practice founded in London in 1980, with studios across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. We are known for technically thoughtful, human-centred work spanning major transport infrastructure, cultural buildings and urban masterplans. Computational design has long been central to how we work, with our Design Technology team playing a key role in developing and embedding that capability across the practice.
We are committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, and we actively welcome applications from people underrepresented in architecture and technology.
We are looking for a Computational Design Specialist to join our London Design Technology team. This role supports project teams in the strategic application of computational design, contributing to project discussions, enabling advanced workflows, and promoting appropriate tools and methodologies. Alongside hands-on project support, you will help shape and advance the studio’s Design Technology strategy, develop and document best practice, and strengthen wider computational design capability across the practice. You will bring deep technical knowledge, communicate complex ideas clearly, and may represent the studio externally.
This role suits someone who enjoys working collaboratively, is comfortable moving between projects, and gets satisfaction from helping colleagues solve problems and build new skills.
WHAT THE ROLE INVOLVES
Day to day
- Supporting project teams with computational design workflows, troubleshooting, guidance and hands-on help
- Running training sessions in Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo and programming languages
- Advising teams on when and how computational approaches can add value
- Documenting workflows and helping to maintain global CD standards
- Continually and proactively seeking to identify opportunities to improve existing workflows or capabilities.
Across the studio and practice
- Contributing to London DT initiatives and attending regular team meetings
- Documenting exemplar work, sharing knowledge and collaborating with the wider global CD team
- Contributing to global standards, resources and content libraries
