Business Analyst

Job Description


Work with us on driving the industry standard for music, video and sports recognition and supporting one of the largest databases of entertainment metadata in the world. We are a team of data specialists and entertainment information experts who support our metadata products and services.  

In the role as ‘Business Systems Analyst’, you will understand, coordinate and develop  tools/systems/application and technology  requirements across Gracenote’s Global Content organization. A key component of this role is the ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution. This role is responsible for the technical tools used to develop and maintain one of the world’s largest and most commercially viable media information databases. Our Global tools /systems /applications are critical systems and provide a unified interface for data authoring and content management.

This role is based in Gracenote Mumbai office and is part of the Content team. This role requires excellent organizational, self-motivation, and interpersonal skills, as well as domain knowledge. This role demands decisive operational judgment and regular communication with Gracenote departments outside of Content team, including Senior Management, Technical / Engineering teams, Product teams, Big Data, and Creative resources.


  • Help drive development, delivery and adoption of tools within the Content Organization

  • Partner with the Global Content Team to research and identify pain points and develop them into business requirements for new tools or methods

  • Using a consultative approach, conduct requirements gathering sessions across the organization to extract cross-vertical business rules paying attention to mainstream as well as outliers

  • Collaborate with other Business Analysts to drive a holistic view of global content tools requirements and create synergies in methods, processes and tools around the world

  • Write and deliver tools functional definitions to the Technical Organization

  • Conduct post-development testing and training to drive adoption of the new tools

  • Evaluate, analyze and recommend third party tools and external systems as required

  • Enable the team to follow Agile/ Scrum methodology

  • Work with the Design, Architect & Development leads to understand a project conceptually and provide inputs to those projects and guiding estimation & execution conversations using subject matter expertise that has been developed over time

  • Lineup the project work into User stories and work to refine and prioritize the product backlog and detail the user stories

  • Act as a key facilitator within the Content team between the power users, global stakeholders and the engineering team

  • Serve as the Information Owner of applications in the area the BA will support.

Professional Requirements

  • Minimum 4 - 5 years experience in Business Analysis and / or Product Manager role

  • Graduate degree; computer science/engineering or information architecture a plus

  • Strong communication skills able to explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences without oversimplifying

  • Dedicated to fast and continual learning technologies, tools, languages, systems, etc.

  • Understanding of the current state of the digital business and related industries

  • Willingness to ask questions and teach others

  • Aptitude for rationalizing and contextualizing data

  • Excited to impact business decisions through data driven insights

Technical Skills and Education

  • Experience running and working as an Agile Product Owner, creating and managing backlogs

  • Strong hands-on experience with UI-focused software, preferably data entry or content management applications, SQL, data warehousing, dashboarding and reporting, involving large datasets and multiple data sources

  • Familiarity with the challenges of modern, web-based development and understand how to structure data effectively

  • Strong Business Analyst skills, including Process Analysis and Requirements Definition and includes (but not limited to) process mapping, functional requirement document creation, user interface design, use case definition & user story creation

  • Ability to understand end to end systems integration
