As we prepare for a busy period of self-assessments and Making Tax Digital (MTD), we’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper who can take ownership, manage outsourced teams, and help us deliver a high-quality service to our growing client base.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role covering bookkeeping, VAT returns, and client support. You’ll also be responsible for managing outsourced bookkeeping colleagues (India-based), ensuring work is accurate and efficient, and stepping in directly where needed.

The role suits someone confident in their technical knowledge, happy to make decisions independently, and comfortable managing client relationships. Experience with self-assessment tax returns is a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day bookkeeping for a variety of clients

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns

  • Manage outsourced bookkeeping teams, ensuring work is accurate, timely, and to Glow’s standards

  • Communicate directly with clients to resolve queries and maintain strong relationships

  • Use Xero and other cloud-based tools to complete bookkeeping workflows

  • (Preferred) Support self-assessment preparation and submissions for sole traders/directors

  • Maintain accurate records and support management accounts where needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years’ bookkeeping experience (practice experience preferred, industry experience also considered)

  • Technical: Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and ideally self-assessments

  • Software: Xero experience preferred; confident with modern cloud tools

  • Mindset: Proactive, independent, and confident in making decisions without constant oversight

  • Communication: Friendly and approachable, with the ability to build client trust

  • Bonus: Experience managing outsourced or offshore bookkeeping resources

What’s on Offer

  • Part-time or full-time positions available (minimum 3 days per week)

  • Salary: £22,000 – £27,000 depending on experience (pro rata if part-time)

  • Hybrid remote role – typically 1 day a week in the office, flexible otherwise
