Job Description

Commitment: 10 - 20 hrs/week (negotiable)

Duration: 3-6 months (shorter duration available for summer)

Salary: Non-Paid Internship/ School Credit Available

Location: San Francisco, CA (can work remotely)

The Global Lives Project is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented intern with excellent writing skills to support the varied development efforts of a rapidly growing organizing. This internship is an extraordinary opportunity to learn about grant writing, project budgeting, individual donor cultivation, and online fundraising - valuable skill sets for any nonprofit professional. Successful interns may see their efforts result in funding that will launch new Global Lives' education programming, media exhibits or 24-hour shoots around the world, and will work closely with the Executive Director, staff and Board of Directors.

The Development Manager Internship will consist of the following core tasks:

  • Conduct research on potential sources of grant funding, with focus on education, arts, and new media/technology funders.

  • Prepare letters of inquiry (LOI) and grant applications based on previously submitted applications.

  • Present draft applications to staff and Board members and incorporate revisions.

  • Submit completed LOIs and applications to funders.

  • Support individual donor fundraising efforts including fundraising events, direct mail and email campaigns, and donor recognition and thank-yous.

  • Coordinate online fundraising efforts through platforms including Razoo, Facebook and Kickstarter

  • Keep accurate records of donor information and history

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to independently conduct research and problem solve

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage a variety of tasks at once

  • Experience writing grant proposals and drafting project budgets a plus, not required

Work Arrangements:

  • Global Lives is based in San Francisco, but remote internships are a possibility

  • All projects are suitable for teams of 2-3 or more interns if preferred.

  • Global Lives is open to receiving full-time and/or part-time students or recent graduates.

  • Participants need to supply their own computers.

  • Regular written reports will be expected from interns documenting progress.

  • Interns are required to help at Global Lives exhibits and events according to seasonal demand, including setting up, taking down and staffing the event.

  • At minimum, weekly meetings with interns will take place in SF, with exception of video/teleconference meetings for remote interns due to intermittent travel.

  • Course credit can be offered.
