Design Internship | Summer & Fall 2014

Job Description

Commitment: 10 - 20 hrs/week (negotiable)

Duration: 3-6 months (shortly duration with longer hours available for summer internships)

Salary: Non-Paid Internship/Credit Available

Location: San Francisco, CA (can work remotely)

The Global Lives Project is looking for a self-starter, creative design intern to develop collateral that will support Global Lives overall programs and marketing campaigns. This internship is an extraordinary opportunity for interns seeking references for future work to create opportunities specific to their needs for professional development, and it may be possible to tailor other aspects of the job to an intern's specific interests.

Some experience in digital and print and at least a small web design portfolio is a must. Interest and experience with art, film, web promotion, and personal development are all desirable.


  • Designing print materials (brochures, proposals, flyers).

  • Designing presentations (in PowerPoint and Keynote).

  • Additionally, you may have the opportunity to create content in other formats (websites, videos, motion graphics, etc.) depending on your experience.

  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above

Desired Skills:

  • Some experience or coursework in graphic design experience for collateral, email, web, mobile and video

  • Time management for deadline-sensitive environment

  • Creative and innovative thinking

  • Development and continual learning

  • Software: Adobe CS (Version 4+) à Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver (or alternative Editor), Illustrator (or alternative vector-graphics authoring software)

Familiarity or desire to learn:

  • Wireframes and mock-up design

  • A/B testing and Layout/colors/design for conversion optimization

  • Messaging/branding in the emails

  • Email analytics

  • Familiarity or desire to learn the basics of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript if a project requires

  • Familiarity with working in Content Management Systems (CMS)

Work Arrangements:

  • Global Lives is based in San Francisco, but remote internships are a possibility

  • All projects are suitable for teams of 2-3 or more interns if preferred.

  • Global Lives is open to receiving full-time and/or part-time students or recent graduates.

  • Participants need to supply their own computers.

  • Regular written reports will be expected from interns documenting progress.

  • Interns are required to help at Global Lives exhibits and events according to seasonal demand, including setting up, taking down and staffing the event.

  • Course credit can be offered.
