Job Summary

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Compliance Engineer. Originates and develops plans and methods to determine compliance of components, equipment and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Agency certification and EMC testing activities for Electronic and Electro-mechanical projects
  • Supports EMC, product safety, and radio approvals from pre-scans / construction reviews through final regulatory approval
  • Creates and maintains a compliance database for pre-scans, construction reviews, and final certifications
  • Supports projects with regulatory (NRTL’s, Notified Bodies, etc.), EMC testing labs, and governmental agencies to secure appropriate global approvals
  • Participates in technical design reviews to (a) determine compliance requirements, (b) communicate those requirements to the project team, (c) participate in design decisions that affect compliance and (d) estimate work load for compliance tasks
  • Works with Product Development Teams to acquire appropriate samples for testing as well as all required design documentation.
  • Guides Product Development Teams through all phases of the Agency certification process. Communicates agency project status and test results to the project team in a timely manner
  • Reviews, updates, and ensures accuracy and correctness of all required Agency documentation
  • Develops and maintains knowledge and understanding of relevant compliance/regulatory standards
  • Will work with engineering to resolve compliance issues turned up during testing
  • Will assist design engineers with internal compliance testing. Experience conducting both safety and EMC tests
  • Follows all safety protocols and maintains excellent project organization
  • Interprets standards, and rulings and challenges agency decisions when appropriate
  • Authors Process and Procedure documents to support certification programs as required
  • Coordinates with the Manufacturing and Quality production Agency Associates, assisting when needed in external audits of manufacturing facilities by safety agencies to ensure alignment and continuity of Agency direction with Compliance office
  • Assists in the design, development and procurement of test and measurement equipment and procedures. Assists with developing laboratory practices & procedures to secure and maintain agency certification and accreditation programs for the R&D Lab
  • Facilitates training and education of Product Design Engineers in Agency requirements
  • Some local travel is required

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 20+ years working knowledge of compliance engineering practices and philosophies at an electronics development and manufacturing company
  • Good working knowledge of common compliance related test equipment, test chambers, and testing practices
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following compliance (regulatory, voluntary, customer) areas including standards, requirements, and solutions:
  • -- Li-ion Battery Testing Experience
  • -- EMC (FCC, IC, IEC, CISPR, CE)
  • -- Safety standards (UL, CSA, IEC, CE)
  • -- Radio
  • Leadership experience or training
  • Self-motivated/self-starter
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
