Director, Sustainability Indexing
Sustainability Indexing | San Francisco, CA | Full Time
Here at Everlastly, we believe it’s high time that consumers have an easy way to know what is (and isn’t) environmentally responsible when it comes to products they're shopping for. That’s why we’re introducing Evergrade: the first ever eco-index for consumer products presented right at the point of purchase.
Current mega retailers aren’t exactly falling over themselves to add this information into their stores, so we figured we’d do it ourselves at everlastly.com. We’re creating a place where consumers can find aspirational products that combine quality, value and sustainable product development practices.
Our eco-index Evergrade looks across the full product life cycle (materials, manufacturing, distribution, retail, customer use, and disposal) and aggregates available data from myriad sources (private research, NGO research, eco-certifications, company provided information, government data, etc.) into an algorithm that assigns a score from 1-100. Products that meet a minimum score will be sold on everlastly.com. We will focus on home goods (you know… bed linens, kitchen appliances, pots and pans, etc.) and take advantage of some powerful mechanics in the gift registry space.
As the leader of the indexing function you’ll manage the process of assessing impact and assigning scores to the products we feature in our store. You’ll manage a small team of researchers who will be entering data for each product, materials and related industrial processes. Additionally yet importantly, you’ll be in charge of communications with key stakeholders (customers, environmental stewards, manufacturers) who might have some issue with our approach in uncharted waters.
The perfect candidate for this position comes from an environmental sciences background, but intrinsically understands the balance of science with actionable insight.
What You Have:
5-7 years of experience in measuring environmental impact, with insights on key stakeholder POV, battle scars around primary issues to expect, and stories of how you’ve navigated these waters.
A degree related to Environmental Sciences.
Great written communication skills and demonstrable experience taking an environmental POV on social media.
Organized, detail-oriented, flexible, proactive
What We Have:
A mission-driven business environment that is exciting and actionable.
Competitive pay, equity grant, full health benefits, 4 weeks of PTO.
A small team operating in an energized work environment that is creative, collaborative and fun.
The potential to change the trajectory of climate change and save the world.
What We Need:
Tell us a bit about who you are and why you’d be great for this position. A formal cover letter isn’t necessary.
Just enough of a perspective on what you’d work to accomplish at Everlastly that we’d be interested in hearing more.
A resume too, please.
We’re looking to fill this position soon and we look forward to hearing from you.
