As Episource’s Sr. Staff Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to developing, designing, and expanding our unified data platform. You will work closely with other engineers, contributing to systems in all data lifecycle phases, from ingestion to utilizing this data via analytics.

As our Senior Staff Engineer, you will be an individual contributor and report to Episource’s Manager, Data Engineering. This is a remote, full-time position, contract work-from-home position.

  • Leverage coding skills. As our Sr. Staff Software Engineer, you will write code that is easy to understand, well organized, and efficient. Your code will be well-documented and meet all requirements. It will also be easy to test and debug. You’ll frequently contribute to and review code in essential core and complex components and frameworks.

  • Observe with an eye for improvement. As our Sr. Staff Software Engineer, you understand the testing approach and use quality metrics to identify gaps. You’ll work with the department to recommend solutions per the accepted testing framework and testing pyramid and act as a champion for department-wide testing strategy.

  • Serve as a solutions SME. You will convince others to build, use, or buy new technology in this role and will also be able to show how new technology can improve the department's processes.

  • Serve as a tech architecture and software SME. Designs, documents, and builds simple and scalable solutions for complex problems with elegant and reusable architectures, resulting in modular services, functions, or workflows that are resilient, maintainable, easy to monitor, and pioneer best practices for engineers. Demonstrates a strong ability to influence others to build, reuse existing, or license new technology components.

  • Experience in backend software development, including designing and developing data pipelines and APIs

  • Working knowledge of RDBMS data modeling and query optimization

  • Skills in building low latency APIs using widely used standards such as AsyncAPI or OpenAPI

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficient in using SSO for authentication services (Auth0, OAuth, SAML, etc.)

  • Experience designing systems, including a good understanding of the landscape of monolithic and microservice architectures and the ability to evaluate and identify tradeoffs in architectural decisions

  • Mastery of technical leadership and ownership of software components and code bases

  • Expertise in designing systems, including a good understanding of the landscape of monolithic and microservice architectures and the ability to evaluate and identify tradeoffs in architectural decisions

  • Seasoned in proposing and developing interfaces between components, designing contracts, configuring synthetic monitors, and ensuring observability throughout the system is thoroughly instrumented for

  • Practical understanding of highly scalable distributed and cloud-native databases

  • Hands-on experience in standard Git process and working knowledge of using CI/CD pipelines for automating testing and deploys.

  • Superior Communication Skills

  • Extensive Python experience
