What You’re Applying For:

Edmunds is looking for a Benefits Manager to provide strategic and operational support for our full suite of health and retirement benefits, wellness programs and other employee benefits and perks. This is a hands-on role focused on researching, analyzing, designing, implementing and administering programs designed to attract, motivate and engage the talent essential to supporting Edmunds' growth.

What You’ll Do:

Benefits Strategy:

  • Proactively partner with leadership and our benefits consultant on the development of our benefits strategy
  • Participate in benefits surveys and other professional activities to determine benefit trends and to monitor the competitiveness of the company's programs 

Program Administration:

  • Manage the daily functions of various benefit plans, medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement and workers' compensation
  • Apply in depth and current knowledge of leaves of absence and manage the day to day administration of parental leaves, medical leaves and accommodation requests to ensure compliance with FMLA, CFRA, ADA and any other applicable federal and state mandated laws
  • Partner with leadership on benefits plan design, premium cost sharing strategies, new benefit offerings and annual budgets
  • Lead the annual benefits renewal process, open enrollment, wellness and other benefits related events, such as walking and well-being challenges, in-office chair massages and more. Provide project management and expertise on new benefit implementations
  • Manage the accuracy of group benefit program information, ensuring timely and accurate transfer of information to and from third party administrators and Edmunds internal systems
  • Serve as internal consultant/benefits subject matter expert to Employee Experience Business Partners, senior leadership, and all levels of management
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers while building strong business relationships  

Communication:

  • Manage all aspects of employee benefits and wellness communication such as preparing announcements, conducting enrollment and updating plan documents
  • Create and present new hire benefits orientation
  • Create communication plans to highlight the outstanding features of Edmunds benefits package to employees 
  • As requested, provide support and education to other members of the Employee Experience team including Employee Experience Business Partners to provide greater clarity and understanding of benefit programs in place to support the growth of Edmunds.

Compliance:

  • Partner with in-house legal team to review contracts and agreements to ensure company and employee compliance with federal and state laws, HIPAA, ERISA and other relevant statutes
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local benefit regulations (like ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA ACA requirements) and manage government reporting for these regulations.
  • Complete internal audits of benefit programs to ensure compliance to plan documents and relevant legislature. This includes the annual 401(k) Plan audit.
  • Work with third parties vendors to complete and file compliance documents and forms.
  • Knowledge of ACA and ability to oversee reporting requirements

Vendor Management:

  • Review vendor, consultant, and carrier invoices and ensure accuracy of invoices and timely payment
  • Develop a strong relationship and manage the performance of carriers, vendors and consultants for service and plan administration
  • Maintain vendor service agreements, recommending revisions/updates as required 

Analytics/Problem-Solving:

  • In partnership with consultants compile and report on employee demographics, plan metrics, performance and trends to assist with making decisions regarding benefit offering. vendors and plan designs
  • Oversee annual non-discrimination testing, communicate results of testing and implement changes with payroll
  • Research and resolve complex benefits related issues


What You Need:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5-8 years of experience in an equivalent role
  • Experience administering health and welfare and retirement plans
  • In depth experience managing leaves of absence, such as medical leaves, family leaves,military leaves and parental leaves.
  • Knowledge of relevant government rules and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, FLSA, FMLA, CFRA, ADA, COBRA, OSHA, workers' compensation, and other applicable labor and/or tax laws and regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google products and exposure to a variety of human resource information systems. Experience with Oracle Cloud HCM, Mercer Marketplace and ADP Workforce Now is a plus

  • Ability to make recommendations and act in situations where ambiguity may exist or where there is no established plan, protocol or benchmark practice available for guidance
