President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Position Summary:
The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic leader of Donate Life America, a national nonprofit organization committed to educating, inspiring and activating the public to say yes to registering their decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor.
In collaboration with the Board of Directors and key partners, the CEO is responsible for advancing the organization’s purpose, mission, and vision. This includes setting and executing strategy, cultivating national partnerships, overseeing public education campaigns, securing financial resources, and leading a high-performing team.
The CEO serves as a key spokesperson for DLA, representing the organization nationally and internationally to stakeholders, partners, the media, and the public.
This is a fully remote position. Some travel required.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
● Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of long-term strategic plans to help save and heal lives by educating, inspiring and activating the public to say yes to registering their decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor.
● Align annual goals with mission-driven strategies and financial resources in collaboration with the board, staff, member organizations, and key partners.
● Monitor emerging trends, data & research, and innovations to ensure DLA remains forward-thinking and responsive.
● Travel and after-hours engagements as required to fulfill duties.
Organizational Leadership & Management
● Recruit, develop, and retain a talented, inclusive, and mission-driven team of 12-15 FTEs.
● Foster a collaborative, accountable, and values-based organizational culture.
● Oversee operations, finance, and staff leadership to ensure strong organizational performance and accountability.
● Ensure fiduciary oversight, transparency, and sound financial management of DLA’s budget. (Current Budgeted Annual Revenue of approximately $2.9 Million)
Partnerships & External Relations
● Cultivate, strengthen and expand partnerships with donation and transplant professionals, healthcare organizations, corporate partners, national associations, Donate Life State Teams and their member organizations, government entities, and community stakeholders.
● Ensure robust participation in DLA’s programs and campaigns and use of the Donate Life brand as the national symbol for the cause of donation by donation and transplantation community members.
● Promote and support use of the Donate Life brand as the national symbol for the cause of donation by the public.
● Serve as a key spokesperson and ambassador for DLA with media, national partners, and the public.
Fundraising & Resource Development
● Provide strategic leadership in philanthropy and corporate partnerships to ensure financial growth and sustainability.
● Cultivate relationships with partners, donors, and other key funding stakeholders to increase revenue and advance DLA’s mission.
● Lead efforts to diversify revenue sources by developing new philanthropic, corporate, and earned-income opportunities.
Board Engagement & Governance
● Partner with the Board Chair and Executive Committee to facilitate effective governance, board engagement, and strategic direction.
● Support the recruitment, onboarding, and development of a diverse and active Board of Directors.
● Serve as primary liaison between staff and the Board; ensure timely communication and decision-making support.
Qualifications:
Required:
● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to inspire and unite diverse stakeholders.
● Strategic thinker with a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
● Outstanding written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
● Demonstrated ability to build and lead strong, collaborative teams by supporting leadership growth, setting clear expectations, and creating a workplace culture where people feel valued, accountable, and connected to the mission.
● Proven executive or senior leadership experience (10 years+) in a nonprofit, public charity, or other mission-driven organization.
● Demonstrated success in partnership development, fundraising, and financial oversight.
Preferred:
● Experience in healthcare, organ donation/transplantation, or cause-based marketing.
● Experience in growing public engagement and support for a cause/mission.
● Familiarity with nonprofit governance and board relations.
