Bakery Operations | Washington, DC | Full Time | From $18.00 to $25.00 per year

Job Description

Dog Tag Bakery is looking for a creative, forward thinking and resourceful leader to serve as Pastry Chef for the Bakery. As an essential leader in the bakery and member of the Dog Tag Team, the Pastry Chef must be a leader of quality and creativity in the kitchen and motivated to help Dog Tag Bakery reach their goals and fulfill our mission. The ideal candidate combines their passion and enthusiasm for baking & pastry with a high level of technical skills, experience and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Lead culinary operations, including collaborating with the Bakery Culinary team to manage the design and execution of Dog Tag Bakery’s menu, including ensuring the highest level of quality for all product development
  • Lead the innovation of new and creative ideas for product development and online presence.
  • Serve as a thoughtful team member and mentor, working to create and maintain a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Collaborate with the Bakery General Manager to develop and oversee training, guidance, and support to all Back of House team members
  • Maintain exceptional levels of cleanliness throughout the bakery and ensure compliance of Health and Safety standards, including CDC COVID-19 Guidelines
  • Manage the oversight of  inventory and production levels based on the typical cycle of business needs.
  • Collaborate with the Bakery General Manager to oversee the scheduling, hiring, and discipline of all Back of House employees.
  • Lead regular product training during training sessions and/or FOH shift meetings in coordination with Director of Bakery Operations
  • Collaborate with the Bakery leadership team to manage the execution of special requests and projects, menu development, new item roll out and bakery marketing
  • Support the development and execution of learning opportunities for the rotation content for Dog Tag Bakery’s Fellowship Program
  • Lead the planning and execution of Back of House shift meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Bakery leadership team to help lead weekly Operations meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to DTI’s Nut Free Certification standards.
  • Collaborate to support the management of food and labor costs.
  • Place timely orders for small equipment, beverages, and raw materials.
  • Collaborate with the Bakery leadership team to create holiday menus, research and test recipes for new menu and seasonal items.
  • Collaborate with the Bakery General Manager to solve kitchen repairs and maintenance issues in a timely fashion.
  • Promote Dog Tag Bakery at Industry events and for internal marketing strategies.



  • Associate Degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience.
  • ServSafe Food Manager Certificate
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • 4+ years or industry experience.
  • Strong organizational, management and communication skills.
  • Clear understanding and enthusiasm for Dog Tag Inc. mission.
  • Good attention to detail.
