About this Role
The Senior Accounting Manager will help manage a set of accounting activities to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies and external audits. This person will help drive process changes by evaluating current state and best future state for a more mature entity. This person will also help ensure appropriate application of US GAAP and help improve the monthly close process and month-end reports in support of financial statements.
The Senior Accounting Manager will report to and work closely with the Controller and others in the organization in analysis and reconciliation of accounts and in development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.
The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background and works proactively to drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity and is action and goal-oriented in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Sr. Accounting Manager Job Responsibilities:
Play a key role in driving the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
Continued focus on improving system efficiencies and business practices.
Participate in strategic financial projects including challenging the ecosystem of finance systems.
Help establish a Risk Control Matrix, challenging current control environment and ensuring compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment.
Able to research and apply technical accounting guidance, including but not limited to Revenue Recognition, accounting for internal and external developed software development, lease accounting, etc.
Help manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation for specified accounts.
Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
Help interact with certain budget owners or other stakeholders to produce timely, efficient and accurate month-end close and challenge internal management/financial reporting.
Assist in challenging the hierarchy and scalability in Chart of Accounts and accuracy in the general ledger and financial statements.
Make recommendations for changes as needed and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed and establish the proper techniques to discover and prevent fraud.
Prepare summary feedback of financial statements variances to budget and for changes period over period.
Actively review and advise on financial/accounting processes.
Guides other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy and applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.
Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations, and recommending new procedures.
Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or finance preferred
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in accounting/finance
Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
Experience streamlining processes and challenging systems environment
Experience with financial reporting requirements and Technical Accounting research and application
Experience challenging or building out a SOX internal control environment
Big 4 experience along with operational experience preferred
Medical industry experience a plus
