At WayBetter, our mission is to make getting healthier fun.

We make games that motivate people to stick to their health-related goals like losing weight, walking more, running, etc. Our games use a mix of financial incentives to hold you accountable and peer support to make it fun. Our approach is based on behavioral science and it works. To date we’ve had 500,000 paying players who have lost 6 million pounds and taken 25 billion steps. Earlier this year we paid out our 30 millionth dollar to our winners and we’re hiring!

The Role

WayBetter has a career-making opportunity to become our VP of Marketing. You will get to breathe life into a brand that touches millions of people in very meaningful ways — literally changing their lives — plus all our game sub-brands like DietBet, StepBet, RunBet, etc.

You job will be to own our brands and harmonize all the touchpoints: from our ads and website to user communications, the look and feel of our apps, physical merchandise extensions, even the design of our new office. For someone who thrives on creative freedom and building something from scratch this is a dream job. Nothing about our company is “me too” and we’re happy to try new things.

Our ideal candidate may have done this successfully at another company but we’re open to someone who compensates for an unorthodox resume with a great sense of design, good taste, superb communications skills, intense creative energy, and marketing savvy. 

The Responsibilities

  • Define our brand and make sure everyone in the company knows it and lives it

  • Own all customer touchpoints and ensure we’re delivering consistent experiences

  • Identify creative new opportunities to surprise and delight our customers

  • Work with our Refs (our customer service team) to be brand ambassadors

  • Be the brand police within the company by approving all designs and communications

  • Extend our brands with merchandise, trophies and medals, non-game experiences, etc.

  • Build out a marketing team to develop all our creative materials (online, videos, print, etc.)

  • Come up with viral ideas that get players to share (and their friends to join them).

  • Lead marketing initiatives (PR, events, partnerships, branding campaigns, etc.)

  • Work with partners to build our brand by association (companies, academics, etc.)

  • Be an ambassador: speak at events, write articles, team up with influencers, etc.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience building a brand from scratch or nearly from scratch

  • Experience with mass-market, digital, consumer-facing apps and products

  • An entrepreneurial drive with an appetite to roll up your sleeves

  • Ability to write clearly and effectively both in storytelling and ad-copywriting

  • Great taste with a designer's eye and passion for typography, composition, colors

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and rally internal and external stakeholders

  • A sense of humor
