About the Role:

As Engineering Manager at Dialpad, you will:

  •  Be a key player in further developing our A.I. technology. 

  • Manage and grow a diverse A.I. team of speech recognition (ASR) and natural language (NL) engineers in Kitchener.

  • Lead this team in achieving its AI product development goals by supporting individuals and managing projects. 

  • Collaborate with machine learning (ML) experts to improve speech recognition models and solve innovative NLU problems to understand and extract insights from business telephone conversations.

  • Consider ethical practices in data management and applications of AI. 

  • Work in close partnership with San Francisco to continue our progress on detecting key moments in conversation, entity-level sentiment analysis, topic analysis and more. 

Our goal is to stand out as the leader in our space in terms of capturing, representing and making useful the knowledge exchanged in these conversations.

To tackle these problems, we will equip you with all the resources an ML team needs: massive amounts of proprietary data (millions of call recordings and transcripts, nearly half a million NLU labels), a mature label acquisition pipeline for your supervised ML models (including a team of 20 labelers) and an amazing engineering team to manage data availability and model deployment. All this so your team can focus on what you do best: building amazing models. 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience successfully leading or managing an engineering team

  • You have great interpersonal skills and lead individuals to thrive 

  • Ability to hire talented and diverse individuals

  • Excellent English and communication skills

  • Excellent project management skills, proven ability to scope projects and deliver quality on time. 

  • Your technical skills are respected by others who come to you for advice. You are able to find effective and creative solutions to engineering problems.

  • Ability to write clean, readable python and provide quality feedback on code reviews

  • Exposure and a strong interest in data science and machine learning

  • You are passionate about the space, technology or product

Nice to haves:

  • Prior working experience with data science, machine learning or deep learning

  • Working experience with product or project management

  • Prior work in NLU/NLP, Speech recognition, or telephony/call center analytics.
