Employee Relations Specialist

Job Description

CVHCare is seeking an outgoing and personable Employee Relations Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This role reports to and works closely as an adviser to the Chief Personnel Officer. The Employee Relations Specialist investigates and provides strategic and operational recommendations, guidance and supporting documentation on a wide range of complex employee relations issues, to include, but not limited to harassment, discrimination complaints, unemployment claims, accommodation requests, misconduct and performance deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Human Resources personnel and management to pro-actively respond to labor law concerns, employee-related issues and/or employment claims

• Provide labor relations recommendations regarding disciplinary action, grievances, arbitrations, and resolution of confidential and sensitive human resource matters; Taking action as appropriate

• Provide guidance to management on a broad range of human resource issues, to include labor law interpretation, department policies and organizational policies and procedures

• Formulate responses, proposals and investigation outcomes for presentation to EDD, State/Federal agencies or other third party

• Investigate and recommend positive resolution of grievances and disputes

• Research, compile, plan, and prepare data and materials for use in grievances, arbitrations, labor/management initiatives and policies and procedure development

• In partnership with Chief Personnel Officer and Legal Counsel, research, formulate response and may represent CVHCare and attend grievances and appeal hearings

• Assesses in-house training needs, identifies appropriate resources, and recommend labor relations training to management, as needed

• Investigate and report out on patient complaints, inappropriate conduct, industrial accidents, etc

• Study arbitration decisions, legislation and practices in order to assess the trends in the industry

• Provide reference documents and statistical data concerning labor legislation and employee-related practices to establish business processes, and operational benchmarks

• Respond to information requests and compile documentation for various administrative projects

• Maintain and monitor employee benefit program (medical, dental, 401K, etc..)

Assist in the administration of new employee verifications (background, OIG, reference checks, E-Verify, etc…)

• Provide support to Chief Personnel Officer and Human Resources team as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Human Resources, Corporate Psychology or a closely related field (other combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability)

• Three (3) years of progressively responsible employee-relations experience

• Familiarity with California employment practices, including regulatory agency policies and fair labor practices

• Demonstrated working knowledge in a variety of disputes, conflicts or grievances situations

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work with high degree of precision, paying attention to detail to achieve the high accuracy levels required and timely follow-up and close-out of all matters 

• Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing to minimize confusion and additional concerns.

• Ability to work effectively as a team member

• Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, and formulating new strategies and procedures
