Fleet Dispatcher
Job Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented truck dispatcher to dispatch our drivers to our sites and or customer locations. In this role, your duties will include communicating with the Assistant Fleet Manager and our field supervisors to record their requirements, plan and adjust routes, as well as scheduling drivers for their daily and weekly work assignments.
To ensure success as a truck dispatcher, you should exhibit extensive experience in dispatching trucks and the ability and commitment to work under pressure. Ultimately, an outstanding truck dispatcher is someone whose organizational skills translate into exceptional equipment delivery and dump truck services
Key Responsibilities
- Scheduling drivers to make deliveries and support the field teams with their needs.
- Communicating with field supervisors about their needs, details of the delivery, start finish times and special handling requests.
- Planning of pre-determined routes to maintain a safe and efficient haul for each driver as well as the traveling public.
- Preparing dispatch documents, DVIR’s, THA’s and delivery tickets as needed.
- Ensure that all deliveries or pick up tickets are delivered back to the Assistant Fleet Manager
- Maintaining records of dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, as well as delivery and pickup times
- Keeping track of transportation regulations and laws to ensure that truck drivers comply.
- Ensures that all permits are obtained and updated as needed.
- Reviewing drivers’ logs, including dispatched calls and arrival times.
- Monitoring truck repairs and maintenance schedules.
- Logging field shipping schedules and complaints.
- Over sees and directs the daily operations of the yard crew and maintains the facility.
- Schedules equipment pickup and deliveries
- Coordinate with outside haulers for scheduling needs
Education & Specialized Knowledge
- High school diploma or GED.
- Formal transportation or logistics training would be advantageous.
- 10 years of experience as a truck dispatcher in the Heavy Civil Construction Industry
- Must display strong leadership and partnering traits
- Exceptional ability to schedule drivers, plan routes, and dispatch drivers to field locations.
- Extensive experience in Driver Safety, customer relations, customer services as well as the administrative side of the work.
- Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Express.
- Ability to monitor drivers' logs, truck maintenance schedules, and repairs.
- Knowledge of applicable transportation regulations and laws.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Capable and willing to work above and beyond as needed during the winter months and any unforeseen emergency events

Physical Requirements
Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. These positions require repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing besides, onto and under a variety of equipment. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness and humidity.
