M&A and Strategy Associate

Curo Pet Care is an acquisition platform in the veterinary services space founded in 2016. Curo acquires majority stakes in small to mid-size veterinary hospitals across the United States (a $10+ billion-dollar market). The founding team has previously developed and sold two businesses with enterprise values over $400 million. Curo is funded solely by the founders’ family offices with no outside institutional investors.

Position Description:
As an M&A and Strategy Associate, you’ll be a key member of the Curo team, supporting the founders in managing and building a leading company in an exciting sector. In this role, you will be responsible for a) sourcing and analyzing acquisition targets b) executing acquisitions c) developing strategic initiatives and d) supporting portfolio companies with their strategic and financial needs. This will be the first junior position hired at the firm and you’ll have unfettered access to the management team and outside service providers. This is an ideal role for an entrepreneurial individual skilled in financial analysis but who wants to gain operating experience at a growing business. There’s no defined tenure for this position; the founders hope the Associate will grow with the firm and assume a management-level position over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing veterinary hospital and real estate acquisition opportunities
  • Valuing practices using a variety of methodologies (DCF, comparables, replacement)
  • Demographic research, competitive landscaping, market analysis
  • Managing and coordinating key aspects of the due diligence process
    • Accounting diligence, financial modeling, drafting LOIs and term sheets
  • Playing a key role in negotiations and deal structuring
  • Working directly with management at portfolio hospitals on strategic growth and cost initiatives

 

Qualifications:

  • Deep entrepreneurial spirit and drive
  • 1-4 years’ experience at a private equity firm, an investment bank, or consulting firm
  • Post-MBA preferred but will consider pre-MBA candidates
  • Working knowledge of veterinary services is welcome but not required
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint; Quickbooks a plus
  • Demonstrated experience as a self-starter
  • Comfort working at a fast pace (Curo is acquiring a new business every 6-8 weeks)
  • Interest in rolling-up your sleeves and joining an organization in its early stages

Timing:

Immediate start, full-time position but would consider internship to full-time transition
