Our Opportunity 

The Parent University Coordinator is responsible for overall program management at specific school sites using the CIS Model to increase parent engagement and resilience by working with school staff, parents and community partners. The Parent University Coordinator will identify and assess the needs of identified parents and students in order to provide tiered supports to address those needs.

Essential Functions:

Necessary Skills:

  • Collaborate with school staff to assess, identify and prioritize parent engagement concerns and parent needs
  • Coordinate implementation of delivery of supports to address identified parent  concerns and needs
  • Coordinate with identified community partners, to provide training, and workshops to enhance parent skills
  • Establish a parent mentoring group that will share skills and resources with other parents at identified schools
  • Establish partnerships to address parent needs and concerns
  • Partner with Cumberland County Schools to ensure programing is coordinated with district programing for most effective and efficient implementation
  • Develop programs to address parental engagement at identified schools
  • Collaborate with community organizations to provide informational sessions to address parent interests and needs
  • Regularly and systematically collect, report and interpret parent concerns and needs
  • Provide timely reports with date and program information to direct supervisor
  • Regularly monitor and adjust the progress toward meeting the goals of the Parent University
  • Present the CIS mission, vision and initiatives within the community as needed via presentations by attending parent and community meetings
  • Manage day to day activities of community volunteers used to work with Parent University
  • Continuously (at least annually) evaluate community partners to ensure they align with school needs
  • Participate in personal and professional staff development, including CISNC and National CIS training
  • Perform other duties necessary for the successful operation of programs as assigned
  • Ability to see, hear, speak and travel
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds

Required Education/Experience:

  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to students, families and the community.
  • Awareness and strong concern for the needs of children, youth and their families.
  • Understanding of school cultures and trends.
  • Ability to work across teams and with multiple supervisors, both on and off-site.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, public administration, social services or related field is required.
  • Certified/licensed professional preferred (i.e., teacher, social worker, counselor, mental health).
  • 2 years of applicable work experience in the education, youth development and/or mental health field.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license and insurance.
  • Technologically proficient in all office technology systems including developing spread sheets, word processing, email, Skype, and Facetime.    
  • Previous experience in a student data or case management system highly preferred.
