Product Designer

Product Management | San Francisco, CA | Full Time

Job Description

About us

We now live at a time where a cyber attack, technology failure, or human error can cause everything from data theft to supply chain disruptions, hospital shutdowns, hotel room lockouts, blackouts, and even nuclear centrifuge explosions–literally the entire spectrum of known risk. The Internet has reached in, grabbed hold, and made the world we once knew totally unrecognizable.

Yet the world of cybersecurity is, sadly, totally recognizable. Existing approaches to cybersecurity are not working. It seemed clear that there should be a platform to democratize access to the tools that prevent and mitigate losses for businesses, and to help them recover even when their security fails. Coalition was founded to do exactly this by combining cybersecurity with insurance, and working with customers before, during and after an incident.

At Coalition, our mission is to solve cyber risk. We care deeply about protecting our customers—the people at Coalition have previously helped start Cloudflare, Lookout, and OpenDNS, countered adversaries in cyberspace at the NSA and CIA, and solved tough engineering problems at Google, Fin and Metromile.

If you enjoy solving problems at scale (with lots riding on it) we hope you'll consider joining us.

About the role

Coalition is looking for its first Product Designer. In this role you will help to refine our product offerings, as well as to design and build new ones. Coalition serves businesses across all industries, from single owner firms to companies with thousands of employees. However, all of our customers share one thing in common: they rely upon technology to grow and build their businesses. You will help us build products that inform customers about their risk, and help them protect the value of their business.

You will collaborate with product managers, engineers, and customers to turn ideas into intuitive, usable products. You will be responsible for understanding the needs of these different audiences and defining and delivering end-to-end product design. You must be comfortable designing experiences that suit the occasionally disparate requirements of our customers and channel partners. Coalition is built on trust and the interfaces you build must encourage this trust, enhance credibility, and enable the user to feel in control. In addition, we operate in a regulated space, so you share our commitment to building a service which is elegant, secure, and compliant.

You will:

  • Be actively involved in requirements gathering and user research

  • Develop high-level journey-maps, taskflows, mockups and prototypes to effectively communicate concepts

  • Work collaboratively across the organization

  • Champion user needs and the overall user experience

  • Deliver designs for each release by following through on details and driving fit-and-finish polish

  • Proven ability to communicate design concepts, from low-fi wireframes to pixel-perfect visual design for production -- we look forward to seeing a portfolio of your work

  • Outstanding conceptual design skills and familiarity with high-level deliverables (user journeys, scenarios, personas, flow diagrams) as well as interaction design best practice

  • Proven experience working with data and creating UX/UI with measurable impact

  • Good user research, testing, and evaluation skills

  • Expert skills in Sketch, Invision, and the Adobe Creative Suite (new tools welcome, too)

  • Self-directed and self-motivated; excellent communicator and collaborator

  • At least 5 years experience in product design, UX or design for digital platforms

  • BA/BS degree in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product), HCI, Computer Science, or a related field

Bonus points

  • Strong visual design talent

  • Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Experience with Git

  • Experience with component based design systems

  • Experience with Atlassian products (Stash, Jira, Confluence)

We strongly prefer that the product designer be in San Francisco, but open to a team member with demonstrated ability to succeed remotely. We are a semi-distributed team, with majority in San Francisco, using Slack, Confluence, Git, Google Suite, and more for development and communication.
