Lead Electrical Designer
Location: Greenwood Village, CO
CLP Engineering (CLPE) is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years’ experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations through our sister company, City Light & Power. CLPE offers a wide range of power system engineering services to investor-owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.
We’re seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Designer to join our engineering team where you'll develop, check and coordinate designs and drawings for plant electrical systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and oversee electrical power system design including single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Develop plans, elevations and sections of various electrical systems, inclusive of below ground and above ground designs.
- Create design/construction drawing package for substation design project including substation general plan, elevation and detail, bill of material, conduit and cable schedule.
- Create design/construction drawing packages for power distribution systems including plans, elevations and sections as necessary.
- Create bill of materials (BOMs) for all components associated with the various electrical system designs.
- Develop accurate designs complying with recognized drafting standards, company practices, policies and procedures
- Perform calculations to document design decisions.
- Provide Quality Control reviews for self-performed designs and designs by others.
- Complete thorough design checks to assure applicable codes, standards, design/drafting standards, and technical accuracy are incorporated.
- Attend coordination meetings, communicate with project team and field personnel
- Perform site visits and data collection to support design development
- Exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction and may concurrently support multiple projects.
- Will play a key role with interfacing with the customer to provide technical support and integrate designs as needed.
- Work collaboratively with engineering personnel and other disciplines.
- Support company standards and processes, providing recommendations for improvement and engage in making updates as necessary

Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate degree or equivalent in drafting, engineering technology or related field preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8+) years of experience with design of electrical systems required.
- Previous design experience in the power industry (distribution systems and/or substations) required.
- Experience with cable tray/conduit layouts, medium voltage power distribution, lighting design and grounding.
- Familiarity with construction industry standards.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software. Micro Station experience is a plus.
- 3D Modelling experience desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and verify applicable electrical design criteria.
- Must have good working technical knowledge of other discipline interfaces.
- Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to others on project team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Travel:
- Minimal travel to project sites may be required.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
- You must be a US Citizen.
- You will be required to obtain Military Base Access Security Clearance.
- Valid driver’s license is required.

- Hourly payrate range: $50.00 - $60.00 based on experience plus eligible for participation in Short Term Incentive Plan.
