Position Overview

Our vision for our contracting team member is a fully integrated business partner who embodies our organization’s aptitude for innovation and discovery and believes that together we can do more than "good enough" for patients.

 As a rapidly commercializing company with our first product application recently accepted by the FDA, we are building a legal department with the ability to scale to meet the needs of our growing company. This role—reporting to the Vice President, Head of Legal and Compliance—will serve as the lead contracting attorney for our company and will have opportunities to gain new skills as our company continues to grow. This position will also assist with a range of other matters which would include healthcare compliance laws, intellectual property, privacy, marketing and dispute resolution. This role would be based out of the company’s newly designed office in San Carlos, CA.



  • Develop strong business knowledge and collaborate with colleagues to deliver fair, well-constructed contracts that protect the company’s interests and achieve business objectives.
  • Responsible for providing ongoing advice and support related to a wide variety of contracts, including the drafting, review, and negotiation of master service agreements and statements of work with vendors, healthcare professionals, healthcare payers, and others
  • Lead, anticipate, and drive solutions for a range of legal and business issues
  • Provide advice regarding commercial/business disputes related to contracts
  • Review, develop, implement, communicate, enforce, and monitor contract process, Anti-Kickback Statute and healthcare laws and regulations compliance as well as other processes, policies, and procedures
  • Work closely with VP, Head of Legal & Compliance and outside counsel on relevant matters
  • Participate, interact, and engage on negotiations related to contracting
  • Maintain efficiency and timely response to requests for contracts, with a customer service mindset
  • Work with business partners to present to C-level signatories related to complex or high value contracts
  • Conduct other legal research as needed


  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from accredited university
  • 3+ years of direct experience with health care and business law background, including at least 2 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Member in good standing with the California Bar or other state bar, with eligibility for in-house practice in California
  • 2+ years of experience handling contract negotiations directly with customers and suppliers
  • 2+ years of experience developing and implementing legal solutions

Preferred Requirements

  • Health law or pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred
  • Mix of law firm and in-house experience preferred
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex legislation and regulations
  • Team player capable of leading and participating within cross-functional project teams to meet key milestones under tight timelines and stressful conditions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation styles to interact with diverse audiences, including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates
  • Strong work ethic with the initiative to work independently
  • High level of integrity supported by sound judgement and ethics
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy in their work
