Director of Inventory Management

Position:

The Director of Inventory Management is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of inventory processes across the organization. This role ensures optimal inventory levels, cost control, and supply chain efficiency to meet business demands. The Director collaborates with cross-functional teams, including procurement, operations, sales, and finance, to align inventory strategies with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement inventory management strategies to balance supply and demand efficiently.

  • Monitor and optimize inventory levels to minimize excess stock and reduce carrying costs.

  • Leverage data analytics to forecast demand and improve inventory turnover.

  • Identify and implement best practices to improve inventory accuracy and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely replenishment and mitigate supply chain risks.

  • Negotiate terms with vendors and optimize purchasing strategies.

  • Work closely with logistics teams to streamline warehouse and distribution operations.

  • Utilize inventory management systems (IMS), ERP, and other technologies to enhance inventory visibility and reporting.

  • Identify and drive process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Implement automation and AI-driven solutions to enhance forecasting and inventory tracking.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing inventory management team.

  • Partner with sales, finance, and operations teams to align inventory plans with business goals.

  • Provide training and mentorship to ensure team success.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.

  • Develop and present inventory reports, KPIs, and insights to executive leadership.

  • Monitor and manage inventory shrinkage, obsolescence, and loss prevention strategies.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, operations, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 7+ years of experience in inventory management, supply chain, or logistics, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of inventory control principles, demand planning, and forecasting.

  • Proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management software, and data analytics tools.

  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong communication and ability to influence cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in wholesale, retail, or manufacturing industries is a plus

  • Six Sigma or Lean Certification is a plus.
