Technical Lead, Software Engineering - AI

Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Technical Lead of Software Development directs and oversees the software function in the overall planning, organizing, developing, releasing, and maintaining of software applications and systems according to business needs. The Technical Lead manages a small team in a department, creating technical strategies and specific objectives for the team. This person also aligns the team with the broader department and R&D best practices, goals, and objectives. In addition, the Technical Lead drives AI adoption within the team and ensures the organization is ready to deliver AI-enabled capabilities by applying AI-assisted development practices and integrating approved LLM services into products and internal tooling with appropriate quality, security, and operational controls.The candidate should have hands-on experience in the following tools/technologies: NodeJS, ExpressJS, Angular, SQL Server, JavaScript, and TypeScript, as well as knowledge of general design patterns and architectural concepts.


Job Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • 60-70% technical, in-code, hands-on development work
  • 30-40% functional, people and project management, architecture work
  • Analyzes complex business needs presented by the users / clients and recommends technical solutions
  • Ensures the consistency and stability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions as defined by the broader R&D architecture team
  • Directs operations in executing production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds customer expectations
  • Directs and helps prioritizes workload for their software development team
  • Perform liaison duties between users, operations, development teams and 3rd party services in the areas of application design, modifications or trouble shooting
  • Enforces and evolves software development standards and best practices
  • Collaborate with other developers and engineers to design, build, and maintain applications
  • Write clean, testable code using NodeJS, ExpressJS, Angular, utilizing in-depth development, technical and design expertise in the full Node/Express/Angular stack
  • Proficiency in writing SQL, stored procedures, and database schema for SQL Server
  • Contribute and conduct development tests including but not exclusive to unit, integration and system level
  • Develop technical specifications
  • Estimates development tasks based on the appropriate business constraints
  • Review and refactor code
  • Document development and operational procedures
  • Reviews and validates implementations of self and others to ensure they meet requirements and match the specifications
  • Conducts interviews and makes recommendations for new hires, consultants and/or replacement personnel
  • Coach, mentor, train and manage the performance of junior staff as needed
  • AI-assisted delivery: Uses company-approved AI coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining code quality, security, and maintainability.
  • AI feature implementation: Designs and delivers AI-enabled features by integrating approved LLM platforms via APIs, including structured outputs and tool/function calling when needed.
  • Quality & reliability: Implements guardrails and evaluation practices (validation, prompt/version management, automated tests) plus fallback behaviors to keep AI functionality stable.
  • Security & operations: Ensures AI solutions meet privacy/compliance requirements and are observable in production (logging/auditing, latency and cost monitoring, rate limiting/budget controls).
  • Team adoption: Enables and drives AI adoption within the team through coaching, practical standards, shared patterns/templates, and measurable usage aligned to policy.


Job Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in all stages of definition, design, implementation, testing, and deployment of web-based software solutions
  • Minimum of 1 year of team/technical leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading the introduction of new technologies and standards into an evolving environment
  • Must have the technical capability to manage resources at the deepest levels across many areas of Development Operations such as Product Management/Coordination, Development, Quality/Testing
  • Technical Capabilities with a hands-on approach in the following tools/technologies: NodeJS, ExpressJS, Angular, SQL Server, HTML, JavaScript, and TypeScript with knowledge of general design patterns and architectural concepts.
  • Hands-on experience using testing frameworks
  • Experience with Agile (Scrum) Software Development Process and methodologies
  • Experience with database management and security a plus
  • Experience with source control such as git and branching/merging best practices


Analytical skills

Communication skills

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (company-approved) to improve delivery velocity and code quality
  • Practical experience integrating LLM capabilities into applications via APIs (e.g., Azure OpenAI/Bedrock/OpenAI/Vertex), including structured outputs and tool/function calling where applicable
  • Familiarity with AI implementation best practices: prompt/version management, evaluation/automated regression checks, and production guardrails (validation, retries/timeouts, fallbacks)
  • Understanding of AI security and compliance basics (data boundaries, PII handling, logging/auditing, and approved provider usage)
  • AI-related training or coursework (e.g., vendor certification, internal enablement program, or equivalent continuing education) preferred

  • 3+ years of team/technical leadership experience preferred

Work Timings:

Monday through Friday from 12 PM to 9 PM IST to provide healthy overlap between India team and US team and supporting both to ensure adequate collaboration. This role will be working in Hybrid Mode and will require at least 2 days’ work from office at Hyderabad. Occasional evening and weekend work may be expected in case of job-related emergencies or client needs.
