Director of Sales Development

Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Director of Sales Development dedicates his/her time as follows:

  • 20% spent on managing the Sales Development team in the absence of the VP of Sales Development or as directed
  • 80%+ is working on sales development


20% of the time

Play a key role in managing and coaching a team of Sales Development Representatives to promote professional growth and attain pipeline revenue targets

  • Maintaining personal goals as set by VP of Sales Development
  • Be responsible for leading and supporting a rapidly growing team of SDRs when VP is not available
  • Continue to build and strengthen your team through development strategies 
  • Oversee day-to-day activity of all SDR team members and monitor performance goals while providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and guidance through 1:1s or ad hoc discussions
  • Inspire and motivate employees on a daily basis through answering questions, personal example, making suggestions on alternative methods of attacking objections and
  • Deliver insightful and comprehensive analyses to internal and external audiences
  • Develop and refine best practices and ensure adherence to Salesforce usage and data integrity
  • Stay up to date on Cendyn’s product and services, industry intelligence and challenges, and client needs
  • Track and document any conversations with SDR

80% of the time

The role plays a key role in building sales pipeline for our rapidly growing business.  He/She will work closely with our sales organization to generate a steady flow of new qualified opportunities. The incumbent shall be a self-starter with high energy and positive phone presence.  Strong organizational and follow-up skills are a must, and previous demand generation experience is a real plus as well as incentive driven and desire to grow into full sales role.

  • Strategize with sales partners to identify high-value prospects with the greatest propensity to buy
  • Engage with decision makers and influencers in targeted prospect accounts to identify their top priorities and business challenges
  • Prospect into to a variety of industries and audiences to set meetings and generate qualified sales opportunities
  • Deploy a combination of inbound and outbound activities including cold calling, email, and direct mail and succinctly articulate the client message and value proposition
  • Nurture and maintain a pipeline of interested prospects until they are sales ready
  • Overcome gatekeeper objections to make direct contact with key decision makers
  • Keep current on products, industry, competitors and positioning
  • Meet or exceed weekly, and monthly program goals for performance and quality
  • Track any and all prospecting and lead management activities in


  • Bachelor’s Degree or combination of at least high school level education and experience
  • 5+ years sales or related market/business experience
  • Previous experience with lead generation, business development or inside sales
  • Experience identifying, contacting and cold calling potential customers
  • 2+ years of sales team management experience of proven affinity to effectively manage a successful sales team of up to 10
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Self-starter-able to work independently without supervision
  • Superior communication skills – particularly over the phone and in email
  • Ability to lead by example based on utmost professionalism
  • Business to Business marketing experience at technology companies a plus
  • Experience using a CRM tool - experience a plus
  • Foreign Language skills are a plus
