JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator of IT Audio Visual (A/V) Systems is responsible for ensuring a customer-focused approach to the design, planning, integration, implementation, maintenance, and support of technology in learning spaces, computer labs, large event spaces and conference rooms. The Coordinator meets with internal and external customers to determine virtual, hybrid and in-person event/classroom needs, and is responsible for assessing A/V technology requirements, developing a budget based on those requirements, and procuring approved equipment and services. Duties include supervising staff members within the campus A/V systems team, provide expert technical guidance and training to staff; developing budget recommendations; research and evaluate purchases/leases; write bid specifications for purchase of A/V equipment and services; design and implement modifications to transmission, broadcast and video conferencing systems; and maintain inventories of equipment and spare parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Coordinates the project life cycle for conference rooms, learning spaces, digital signage, conference, and large event spaces.
  2. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs classroom/conference A/V equipment.
  3. Manages planning, setup, production, and support of audio, video, and various other technical support for in-person, virtual and hybrid events for programs such as commencement, Board of Trustees meetings, ceremonies, conferences, and other events.
  4. Maintains an accurate inventory of technical equipment in the College’s IT asset management system, ensures proper disposal of equipment, creates documentation on integrations and provides technical training to faculty, students, and technical support staff on proper operation and care of related equipment, software and cloud-based applications and services.
  5. Responds to tickets and support requests in a timely manner. Documents service request and problems.
  6. Work in conjunction with vendors to obtain quotes for cost of technology equipment/installation/maintenance fees as it relates to technology upgrades of classrooms/learning spaces throughout the College.
  7. Create and maintain matrix of project timeline to ensure project(s) are completed accurately and on time.
  8. Serves as lead technician for events requiring A/V or video and web conferencing support.
  9. Researches new A/V equipment and consults with supervisor and college stakeholders on potential purchases.
  10. Supervises staff members in providing IT A/V systems support services.
  11. Prepares documentation and plans for AV technical services staff and outside AV design consultant use.
  12. Manages assigned projects and verifies that contractors meet contract specifications and recommends final acceptance of projects to local and College administrators.
  13. Attends training and courses to remain current on state-of-the-art technologies.
  14. Serves on College committees and/or external committees as directed by supervisor and/or Chief Information Officer.
  15. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  1. Associate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  2. Two years of relevant technology experience
  3. Extron AV associate certification or Avixa CTS certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of current technology and services for the production and display of multimedia content (e.g. cameras, mixers, microphones, speakers, digital displays, etc.)
  2. Knowledge of video production and event live-streaming.
  3. Knowledge of A/V system functionality and experience in the use of complex control A/V systems (e.g. Extron).
  4. Knowledge of PC operating systems, including installation, maintenance, configuration and troubleshooting.
  5. Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance on audio/video equipment.
  6. Knowledge of the theory, components, configurations, and operation of classroom technology and media equipment.
  7. Ability to plan, manage, coordinate and support A/V technology and services for in-person, virtual and hybrid events, and classes.
  8. Familiarity with instructional and collaborative space design.
  9. Ability to oversee and coordinate installations of A/V technology and services.
  10. Ability to analyze, interpret, and resolve A/V, IP Networking and IT technical problems.
  11. Ability to use small hand tools and power equipment.
  12. Ability to train technicians and to provide technical support.
  13. Ability to design and implement solutions and modifications to audio and video equipment utilizing industry standards.
  14. Ability to read and understand architectural drawings and wiring schematics.
  15. Ability to develop and manage budgets.
  16. Ability to maintain a computerized inventory of equipment.
  17. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  18. Ability to collaborate with other departments.

SCHEDULING:

  1. Ability to work a varied schedule during critical periods including evenings Saturdays, and Sundays.
  2. Due to the need of interaction with students, employees and the college community this position requires in-person presence. This position is eligible for telework of one day per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 lbs. The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting and sitting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
  2. This position supports information technology at Cecil College’s main campus in North East, MD, its additional location in Elkton, MD and all additional instructional sites.  Travel between these locations is required.
