Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.
With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effectively teach skills related to courses in program module in the areas of classroom, simulator, and range/road activities.
- Prepare/submit accurate daily records and reports to the Program Coordinator.
- Monitor daily work performance (progress) of students, conduct evaluations, and prepare progress reports.
- Promote academic success by providing additional training/instruction as needed.
- Refer student issues to Lead Instructor and/or Program Coordinator.
- Ensure students understand the relationship between the skills they are learning and future job performance.
- Report needed repairs to Program Coordinator.
- Report any program or student problems to the Program Coordinator.
- Prepare and submit daily post trip reports.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and/or Training Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.
- Minimum three years of experience as a commercial vehicle driver requiring a Class “A” license.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- No points on driving record. No record of serious driving violations.
- No DUI or DWI or alcohol restrictions
- Position is subject to all state and federal regulations for CDL drivers including DOT physical and drug screen.
- Clear criminal background check
- Willing to conform to teaching methods and standards set by the program.
- Willing to wear program uniform & follow to program dress & appearance code.
- Meet all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) for commercial drivers.
- Good oral and written communications, organizational, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Willing to work weekends and evenings as required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to the DOT physical requirements, Instructors must be able to meet the following additional requirements:
- Climbing: Into and out of conventional tractor cabs and trailers.
- Pulling: Full strength vertically and horizontally to lift tractor hood and hook and unhook a trailer
- Standing: Up to 9 hours per day outside on asphalt/concrete surface in all types of weather conditions.
- Sitting: Up to 9 hours per day riding in a tractor trailer.
- Agility/Dexterity: Ability to quickly turn head and/or body to observe student driving situation. Ability to grab wheel and/or gear shift from the tractor passenger seat in an emergency situation.
- Math:Ability to record and accurately calculate grades, mileage, and student driving time. Ability to evaluate student calculations.
- English:Ability to read and write English. Ability to speak English understandably so that persons can clearly and easily understand directions.
- Speaking Ability: Ability speak distinctly and at sufficient volume to be heard by the student driver over the noise the noise of a running engine.

This is an non-exempt position (overtime eligible); Grade 108 (pay scale:$19.55-31.27). Based on the budget, the salary for the position will $27.00/hr. Applicants' initial salary placement is based on internal equity and relevant candidate experience.
Schedule: 37.5 hour work week; schedule Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday. Anticipated Start Date: January 2025.
