Internship - Living Wall Irrigation System

To create a living wall monitoring system which will show the status of the humidity and nutrient level of different sections of a living wall and have the ability to bring water + nutrients to those modules which need it. Building a prototype which will read, store, and graph the output of a number of soil sensors which are then assessed. The system can then be automatically irrigated to bring the different modules of the wall to a preset level.
Phase 1: Build living wall which will be 3×3 or 4×4
Phase 2: Wire with sensory network
Phase 3: Acquire all data into cloud platform
Phase 4: Develop algorithms to ‘react’
Phase 5: Develop irrigation systems with tubes which can irrigate and heat up modules as well.

The internship is designed to familiarize and equip the interns with a variety of skills including product research, product development & design, product marketing etc. It will also immerse the intern(s) into the world of emerging control technologies. The intern(s) will be mentored throughout the internship by Casaplex programmers, business development, and marketing staff.
This internship is ideal for computer science and engineering majors because it also introduces the intern(s) to the business life cycle and business development aspects of consumer product design.
The internship will begin as early as May and end in late August. These dates are negotiable based on ideal candidate availability.

Bonus Project: Develop an automated system using vertical living wall modules and LED Grow lights to allow people to grow vegetables and other edible plants/herbs in their home with little to no interaction. This would include an automatic irrigation system, scheduled lighting to compensate for the absence of natural light. It would be interesting to have cameras which take snapshots during growth of plants so that they can be uploaded and tracking in time-lapse.
