Job Summary

The Systems Administrator monitors, deploys, implements, and maintains the County’s /SO Infrastructure Systems. This includes managing servers, storage, backups, and the virtualized computing environments. Additionally, this role maintains security of the environment by following established processes and procedures in accordance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Systems Management

  • Evaluate, test, and deploy new infrastructure systems
  • Perform installations, updates, and routine maintenance of infrastructure systems
  • Administrate a domain environment managing users, computers, DNS, DHCP, policy, and certificates
  • Administrate an email environment managing users, mailboxes, spam, and databases
  • Administrate an online tenant managing identities, clients, software, governance, risk, and compliance.

Server Management

  • Administrate a server environment managing assets, software, and controlling compliance
  • Recommend and/or assist with implementation of new system hardware, firmware, and upgrades
  • Deploy server software and maintain it through its lifecycle including upgrades, migrations, and retirement
  • Maintain a knowledge of network topology concepts and server planning within development, test, and production environments

System Monitoring and Maintenance

  • Monitor storage area networks (SAN), backups, and virtual server environments
  • Proactively audit server system performance, identify trends, and provide remediation to concerns
  • Perform patch management to ensure systems are current with security patches and updates

Data Protection and Security

  • Protect county data following county and Sheriff’s office policy and procedure
  • Manage VPN remote administration and security practices
  • Audit daily reports of the County backup system, perform scheduled test
  • Implement security practices and permissions to ensure data protection

Other Duties

  • Contribute to project planning, tracking, and management
  • Train continuously in order to stay current with industry changes
  • Performs all work duties and activities following County/SO policies, procedures, and safety practices
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge and considerable work experience with recent Microsoft Windows Server Platforms (2016, 2019, 2022)
  • Strong knowledge and considerable work experience conducting Active Directory and Group Policy administration, PowerShell scripting, and implementing best security practices; knowledge of certificates including TLS and PKI
  • Strong knowledge and work experience with Microsoft Exchange, Exchange PowerShell Administration, and Spam Filter Administration
  • Strong knowledge and work experience with M365 administration (Microsoft Cloud Computing)
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware, RAID configurations, and storage area networks
  • Strong understanding of network and server interoperability
  • Proficient in DNS, DHCP, IP schemes, VLANs, and wiring standards
  • Knowledge and work experience with virtual environments; VMware experience is a plus
  • Knowledge and work experience with backup solutions; Veeam experience a plus
  • Knowledge and common administration of SCCM/MECM and Enterprise Anti-Virus solutions
  • Skilled in project planning, business process analysis, and evaluation
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and the public for high-quality service
  • Willingness to work outside business hours for maintenance and security updates

Special Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a polygraph examination, through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)

Education and Experience

System Administrator II

  • Associate’s degree in computer science or related field required
  • Minimum five (5) years’ infrastructure systems administration experience
  • Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Azure Administrator Associate, M365 Certified Administrator Expert, or equivalent formal training a plus
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered
