Parks Program Manager
Parks, Cultural and Natural Resources | Caldwell, ID | Full Time | From $24.50 to $29.16 per hour
Starting Hourly Wage: $24.50 - $29.16, DOE
The Parks Programs Manager develops and executes educational programs, management, and services for the parks. The position is under the direct supervision of the Parks, Cultural & Natural Resources Park Supervisor, with considerable latitude allowed for independent judgment and initiative.
Key Responsibilities
Programming
- Develops, coordinates, markets, and schedules educational programs, events, field trips, group visitations, museum exhibits, museum events, dormitories, and special events
- Coordinates one-time, recurring, annual, or special projects with community, civic, school, athletic, and volunteer organizations
- Ensures educational programs align with State and National curriculum standards to enhance education and can be adapted to all ages and groups in addition to digital platforms
- Identifies program efficiencies and deficiencies and recommends program modifications as needed
Management
- Supervises, coordinates, and administers day-to-day operations of assigned staff, programs, events, and facilities, primarily at Celebration Park but also at Lake Lowell Park during spring field trip season
- Creates and implements internal policies and procedures that allow for efficient and effective delivery of a diversity of programs and the use of building facilities
- Assists with search, rescue, and recovery operations as needed under the direction of trained staff, law enforcement, and other agencies
- Supervises and oversees safety and risk management of assigned parks, programs, and facilities, primarily at Celebration Park (and seasonally at Lake Lowell Park)
- Responds to public concerns, develops alternative solutions, and initiates action to create change
Supervisory
- Hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, and schedules day-to-day assignments and tasks of seasonal, part-time, volunteer, and community service workers
- Arranges, supervises, and coordinates staff training, safety, and in-service sessions
- Utilizes people skills to communicate, motivate, and direct or oversee a person, group, organization, or volunteers
Technical
- Performs maintenance and support duties, as needed
- Researches and recommends new equipment purchases
- Prepares, supervises, and maintains records, documents, logs, and related operational, use, incident, and maintenance documentation
- Prepares technical documents and reports, assists with obtaining statistics and information related to programming, events, and visitation numbers
Other Duties
- Performs all work duties and activities following county policies, procedures, and safety practices
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Skills and Abilities
- Methods, techniques, philosophy, and objectives of developing, managing, and operating park facilities, educational programs, and museum
- Ability to build effective and successful education programming for youth and adults that is responsive to community interest and needs
- Extensive knowledge of school district curriculum requirements and ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with school administrators, teachers, and parents
- Work cooperatively and constructively with fellow workers and members of the public to provide public service of the highest quality
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Problem-solving and supervisory skills
- Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment and tools required for park operations and maintenance
- Operate standard office equipment and a personal computer
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks on time
Special Qualifications
- Idaho driver’s license
- Must complete a background investigation
- Availability to be on-call after regular work hours to respond to emergencies
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Education, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, Education, Natural Resources Management, Sciences, or a related area preferred
- Four years’ experience working in education or program and event management and administration, including supervisory experience preferred
- Additional relevant education and experience required for the position
Essential Physical Abilities
