Right now we are looking for an exceptional Database Administrator who will be responsible for maintenance, design and development of Cross MediaWorks’ databases and the servers that support them including SQL Server transactional and analytical RDMS, MYSQL, and Spark/Hadoop-based data platform. The DBA guarantees the performance, relational integrity, service quality of mission critical databases and oversees database security. The DBA also monitors and controls system capacity for existing service requirements and plans for future growth. The DBA works closely with operations to ensure data processing workflows are efficient and smooth. The DBA works closely with software developers ensuring that the systems that they develop work correctly, efficiently and securely with databases.

Our ideal A-player will:

  • Maintain 24x7 SQL Server 2014 instances using native SQL Server, Red Gate, and other tool sets
  • Install and deploy SQL Server, its upgrades and service packs as necessary
  • Manage security rights and permissions for access to the databases. Setup and manage replication of data to minimize user queries from application access to the database
  • Provide data archiving and restoration service
  • Ensure that the databases are running efficiently through modifications of the server provisioning, database structure, indexes, and stored procedures and allocation of disk space to specific table structures
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise relating to any databases. Be able to identify problems either within databases or within processes that are impacting applications. Be available for database support whenever needed
  • Create, monitor, and improve data flows through the company using replication, stored procedures, and SSIS packages. Explain and document current data flows as well as newly created data flows
  • Maintain data marts using SSAS
  • Support SSRS-based reporting environment
  • Write maintenance and configuration procedures and disaster recovery plans. Test these plans and check integrity of the backups
  • Recover from outages, restoring system availability
  • Recommend procedures, rules and system specifications to IT and senior staff. Recommend future equipment and software upgrades for budget consideration
  • Work with a senior developers and senior staff to advance projects to completion.  Support quality control, version control, deployment, data migration and data conversion
  • Support testing and pre production database environments throughout the organization

Our ideal A-player will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or related field
  • Experience with SQL Server is necessary and certification is highly desirable
  • Job-related experience with Spark/Hadoop-based data platforms and related ecosystem
  • Proficiency in the SQL language and familiarity with programming languages
  • Expert understanding of relational database architecture and design
  • Expert on data management, with deep understanding of maintaining data under changing business requirements and rules
  • Understanding of analytical database architecture and design
  • Broad knowledge and working experiences with data extraction, data conversion and data loading
  • Extensive knowledge and working experience with operation systems, attached raid storage system and network-based SAN storage systems
  • Strong teamwork skills, ability to interact effectively and accurately with all organizational levels
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) as required
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize own responsibilities; work independently and completely projects in a timely manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, maintenance and configuration procedure writing highly desirable
  • Great interpersonal and teamwork abilities
