INSIDER science and space reporter — San Francisco

Editorial | San Francisco, CA | Full Time

Job Description

INSIDER's science section is looking for a full-time science and space reporter to join our team in either San Francisco or New York.

The reporter will focus on space, planetary science, celestial events, and general interest science stories as needed.

We’re looking for someone who’s interested in writing about everything from the Juno probe at Jupiter to the next solar eclipse. Our style is smart, conversational, exciting, and geared toward a general audience.

Our science and space reporter will need to be able to find the latest news before everyone else, concisely describe the intricacies of a complicated new discovery, and understand why a new development is important in a larger context.

You'll be called on to write visual features, quick aggregated posts, and in-depth feature stories, among other things. We're looking for someone who loves space and is full of great story ideas.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An interest in the human-interest side of space, from NASA missions to meteor showers
  • An understanding of how to write about science for a broad audience, and the flexibility to cover a wide range of topics
  • The ability to work efficiently in a quick-turnaround environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail
  • At least a few years of experience covering science for a digital publication

INSIDER is great journalism about what passionate people actually want to know. That’s everything from news to food, celebrity to science, politics to sports and all the rest. It’s smart. It’s fearless. It’s fun. We push the boundaries of digital storytelling. Our mission is to inform and inspire.

This is a full-time position that can be based in our San Francisco office or our New York headquarters. INSIDER offers competitive compensation packages that include benefits.
