INSIDER is looking for a full-time reporter to help grow and develop our policy team.
At INSIDER, a policy reporter is able to move away from the political horse race and focus on how the government is making an impact on the lives of everyday people. From the Trump administration's latest regulatory action to the 2020 candidates’ healthcare proposals, a policy reporter would be able to break through the jargon and tell a general audience why the ideas coming out of Washington matter to them.
The ideal candidate would be expected to digest complex policy proposals from lawmakers, connect with experts to gain insight, and explain the effect of government policy on everyday citizens.
The ideal candidate would also:
Be able comfortable interacting with policymakers and topic experts
Possess an ability to present complex ideas in a creative and clear manner
Have knowledge of the policymaking process
Have previous experience covering politics, ideally with a focus on policy topics
Be able to balance daily production with in-depth reporting and research
Have 1-3 years of reporting experience
