INSIDER editor, science and health freelance

INSIDER is hiring an editor to grow and edit our network of health, science, and parenting freelancers.
As an editor, you will seek out freelancers and edit stories for structure, flow, style and factual accuracy. You will work on all sorts of story formats, including reported pieces, personal essay, slideshows, quick news hits, and longer features. Additionally, you’ll work with teams across Business Insider and INSIDER — including international partners and our product review team — to give “science reads” on stories (in other words, making sure science and health claims are sound).
The ideal candidate is comfortable editing everything from stories about the keto diet to roundups of studies looking at screen time use in young children. They will also enjoy brainstorms and a fast-paced environment.
We’re looking for someone with the following:
- Motivation to build a brand-new team and work across Insider Inc.
- A natural ability to frame news in a way that communicates to readers how it will impact them
- Adeptness at balancing the demands of both accuracy and speed
- A strong multi-tasking and deadline-oriented style
- The ability to make complex ideas easy to understand
- Experience working with freelance writers
- Copyediting skills and knowledge of social media and SEO best practices
