Corporate Counsel

Job Description

Business Insider is the fastest growing business news publisher in the world and is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel. The attorney will be responsible for overseeing a broad range of legal matters, including Intellectual Property, First Amendment, and litigation claims.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

· Provide legal advice to and train internal clients on First Amendment and Intellectual Property matters

· Conduct pre-publication review of posts and support news-gathering activities

· Respond to and pursue legal claims relating to the First Amendment and the use of Intellectual Property protected content and propose method of resolution, including settlement terms or other courses of action

· Actively manage outside counsel, litigation budgets, invoices and expenses

· Manage Trademark portfolio including tracking status of existing and new applications, Corsearch analysis and background research for new marks

· Manage domain portfolio, including policing, registration and renewal of existing and new domains

 

Requirements (Knowledge, skills and abilities):

· Minimum 5 years of experience, including substantial experience in media law and intellectual property

· Experience in the areas of Digital Media, First Amendment, Copyright and Trademark litigation

· Excellent negotiation and analytical skills

· Strong interpersonal skills - able to communicate with all levels of management and communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in both oral and written format

· Self starter

· Strong organizational skills

· Knowledge of digital media and related industries
