About the Role

As Director of Communications you will design, lead and execute a cohesive communications strategy including PR and social media that promotes Braintrust’s differentiated and forward-thinking brand. You will be responsible for strengthening our profile during a pivotal time in the company’s growth. You will craft provoking and compelling narratives designed to generate press coverage, and be the eyes and ears of Braintrust, proactively identifying trends and high value opportunities for us to contribute commentary and perspective. 


Communications Strategy

  • Develop creative and integrated communications strategy inclusive of messaging frameworks, key talking points, channel recommendations, measurable goals aligned with business priorities 

  • Create a cadence of news, announcements, speaking engagements and more associated with company milestones, industry research, and marketing campaigns.

  • Lead the social media strategy to grow our audience and increase brand engagement across channels and audiences

  • Position Braintrust executives as the spokespeople for the Future of Work by building their social presence and media engagement frequency

  • Partner with Growth Marketing and Community teams to ideate, coordinate and execute remarkable growth strategies utilizing press and guerilla marketing

  • Build an overall communications calendar with key dates for op-ed, award and speaking submissions

  • Track coverage, measure communications efforts and deliver frequent reporting on progress towards goals

  • Oversee maintenance of all business messaging, company fact sheets, bios and other company materials

  • Be a strategic thought partner with the VP Marketing and Co-founders.

 Media Relations

  • Develop a media engagement strategy to build Braintrust into the go-to thought leader in the Ownership Economy, all things Future of Work and the Gig Economy 

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with business, tech, crypto and consumer press

  • Pitch journalists to gain coverage in high impact print, online and broadcast media including profile pieces, feature stories, bylines or commentary to market trends/ news of the day

  • Secure guest spots on top tier, largely distributed podcasts

  • Create and manage a spokesperson program, ensuring speakers are regularly media trained 

  • Develop a proactive PR practice by regularly monitoring and identifying opportunities to trendjack news of the day or enter mainstream/industry conversations through headlines of the week

  • Manage inbound inquiries and requests.

Content Development

  • Build compelling submissions to earn recognition in awards and speaking programs

  • Create and manage reviewing of critical communications materials (pitches, press releases, media lists, messaging guides, statements, briefing materials, coverage reports and more)

  • Take stories from concept to launch - create themes that resonate through media, social, thought leadership, marketing, and build the necessary assets to bring the idea to life on multiple channels

  • Contribute to the thought leadership and content marketing strategy

  • Compose webinar, LinkedIn Live, Clubhouse, video and presentation narratives, build the outlines and prep docs for executives

  • Oversee the execution of Braintrust and co-founders social media to engage with our community and generate broader publicity to help grow our awareness in the market

About You

  • 8+ years experience working in communications, public relations and social media with a majority of time working in-house

  • 2+ years team management experience

  • Startup experience a must, experience taking a company public or leading political campaigns a big plus

  • Experience managing external agency partners

  • Demonstrated abilities in executing complex communications programs with an emphasis on storytelling and integration across traditional and digital channels

  • Strong interest in cryptocurrency, can navigate the space, knows the key players and influencers

  • A proven record of success, building and positioning brands as well as establishing relationships with press and industry influencers

  • Experience in developing research driven narratives, gathering, synthesizing and analyzing insights into newsworthy content
