About the role:

The Deputy Managing Editor for B/R Mag manages and executes Bleacher Report's premium editorial division on a day-to-day basis while rallying the entire content organization around both high-impact packages and real-time reporting. This senior editorial leadership role is a key connector across all of B/R, focused on premium storytelling that speaks the same language across all platforms.

 Responsibilities:

  • Oversees B/R Mag "cover story" execution, editing, production and packaging
  • Manages and line-edits senior writers
  • Coordinates with staff writers on ideas, assignments and deadlines
  • Maintains high-impact, premium standards of daily, relevant content for both brand and audience goals—including line-editing and "last line of defense" pre-publication oversight
  • Collaborates with top B/R leaders across departments to enhance the synchronicity between content creation and social-media packaging
  • Leverages staff creativity and knowledge at all levels of B/R to enable the development of high-impact content ideas
  • Helps lead the gathering, organizing and presenting of content pitches from multiple editorial divisions—and helps evaluate them for brand and audience goals
  • Leads the identification and communication of content priorities in order to solicit content pitches and plans around events, seasons, athletes and other content opportunities
  • Develops and refines systems of communication, ideation and execution to assure the creation and distribution of content that best matches B/R mission and strategy
  • Manages small production team and intern
  • Liaises with social-media team, individual sport desks and copy editors
  • Assists with recruitment of writers and multi-platform talent

Requirements:

  • 3+ years' experience editing and executing premium content, preferably in a sports environment and/or major newsroom
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with established and emerging feature writers
  • Understanding of thematic packaging and multi-platform storytelling
  • Ability to make decisions in breaking-news and high-impact environments
  • Strong knowledge of sports culture and an understanding of B/R's brand
  • Proficient in using all social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.)
