Main Purpose of the role

The Senior Developer has full life cycle responsibility for internally developed and externally sourced IT system and ensuring they meet user and business needs. Leading the release cycles and working with business stakeholders, clients and other developers to coordinate the development process and meet project deadlines. As a senior team member, they will also be expected to undertake an element of technical leadership and management, as well as take ownership of ongoing support issues that require developer involvement. The Senior Developer is jointly responsible for departmental standards and principles being communicated to the team as well as ensuring they are actively enforced. This is a senior role working closely with the Head of Development (HOD) to ensure consistent standards.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the HOD in developing and maintaining a scalable, resilient, reliable, secure and efficient technology software platform to allow Banks Sadler’s business to function upon
  • Assist the HOD in maintaining a documented technology roadmap and IT strategy for all systems
  • Responsible for release management and ensure that all infrastructure deployments have rollback plans
  • Deploying timely releases within a pre-determined schedule and deploying code that is production ready, fully tested and signed off by a representing stake holder
  • Maintain systems documentation and ensure it is up to date with changes and new software releases
  • Provide support with external as well as internal systems where appropriate
  • Assist the HOD in ensuring that the team are conforming to industry best practise
  • Use technology that is appropriate to the problem we are attempting to solve
  • Assist the development strategy of any new technology project, assisting the system developers with researching, scoping and planning
  • Ensuring that software is developed to the highest quality possible
  • Reviewing systems developers code and providing constructive feedback
  • Act as a technical advisor to management and other departments within the business
  • Act as a mentor to the team and share knowledge
  • Ensure that all Service Delivery and Support projects are carried out in accordance with existing processes and procedures adopted within the IT Strategy
  • Develop internal projects in accordance with the IT security policy
  • Report any security breaches to the team leader where possible and appropriate
  • Keep confidential protected material from unauthorised access
  • Support and maintain Banks Sadler’s proprietary applications environment including interfaces to other systems
  • Provide notification to team leader regarding application outages or service affecting issues
  • Assisting in client facing IT projects whether that be in the office or onsite, this role may range from project manager to technical supervisor
  • Leading the development of event management technology solutions such as RFID delegate tracking

 

Skills/Background required:

  • Computer related degree and 4+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of programming languages used at Banks Sadler (ASP.NET C#, MVC, SQL Server)
  • Agile SCRUM and TDD (BDD is also advantageous)
  • Keep abreast of new technological advancements
  • Accuracy of estimations
  • Work well under pressure, managing tight deadlines, with a can do attitude
  • Able to work on own initiative and also as a key team member
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Fast learner
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Flexible about working long hours and weekends and willingness to travel in UK / overseas and spend time away from home
