The team

The Support Engineer is a member of the Research & Development team. R&D is a multi-disciplinary team of experienced and highly skilled UX designers, software developers, test engineers, technical writers and support engineers, guided by the Chief Architect and the R&D manager. The team is responsible for the entire software development lifecycle of Backbase's portal product suite including out-of-the-box portal solutions. With your experience and skills you will contribute to the quality of our software products, helping to realize successful customer implementations by our Expert Services consultants and partners. You will also benefit from the knowledge and experience of your R&D colleagues. We work in Scrum teams in order to deliver new functionality in every release, closely cooperating with Product Managers and the Expert Services team. The complexity and nature of the product combined with the latest technology trends makes working in R&D at Backbase a great and challenging experience.

Key Responsibilities

As a Support Engineer, your main task is to help and advice Backbase customers with the questions and support requests they have regarding our products, ranging from simple license questions via telephone to complex on-site troubleshooting. You will work in a team of high skilled international teams across the world. With a service driven attitude you will do what it takes to meet and exceed our customers expectations.

Required skills

In order to succeed in this challenging and dynamic position with lots of growth potential, our ideal candidate will fit the following profile:

  • Knowledge of web technologies like JavaScript, XML, CSS, XSLT, Java.

  • Experience with Application Servers (ie. Tomcat, WebSphere, JBoss etc.)

  • Experience with all major SQL databases.

  • Excellent communications skills.

  • A flexible, service driven attitude towards troubleshooting.

Required experience

  • University degree, preferably in one of the technical studies.

  • Preferably with 1-2 years programming and troubleshooting experience.

Your personality can be classified as:

  • Team player who can quickly engage with others to find the root cause of a problem;
  • Eager to understand, sharp in analyzing symptoms and stack traces;
  • Flexible in working outside regular office hours if needed;
  • Committed to find an acceptable solution for our customers;
  • A service-driven attitude under all circumstances.
