Technical Evangelist Team has lab equipment that must be racked and cabled, as well as configured for remote access.  This will provide the capability to perform lab testing, write technical documentation, and support SE's and Partners to win deals when technical questions arise that require a workup in a lab environment.  The objective of this project is to build a lab with existing or new equipment as necessary.  The lab should be remotely accessible to the tech evangelist team, fully modular, and automated for quick topology builds and testing.  The lab will be split between two existing racks in Sunnyvale and a Colo to be determined in or near San Francisco

Project scope:

  • Consolidate inventory to a single spreadsheet
  • Identify/document equipment needed to serve as the backbone of the lab
  • Define/document physical wiring of lab equipment
  • Rack and Stack/ Connect all equipment
  • Define/document/ configuring addressing scheme for management
  • Define/ document/ apply base configurations to all equipment
  • Define, document, and build reset scripts for equipment
  • Define, document, and build automation server
  • Provide detailed documentation of each component (physical wiring, Logical connectivity, device configurations, automation workflows.)

Major deliverables:

  • Inventory documentation
  • A lab design proposal based on needs of the Tech Evangelist team
  • Build a lab based on approved design specifications to include:
    • Provide recommendations of additional software, hardware, and best practices
    • Rack Mounting, cabling, wiring, and documentation of racks in Sunnyvale and at a colocation facility to be determined
    • Configure and documentation of lab equipment to support base configurations and controlled management access (Consoles, GUI's, etc...)
    • Build and document an automation server to support on-the-fly lab builds
    • Provide templates to adjust automation as needs change in the future
    • Provide detailed documentation of project
