Privacy Counsel 14402 #PP

We are looking for a Sr. Counsel contractor to join our team for a six-month period. As part of our Legal & Public Policy Team, you will support our global privacy compliance. Our team consists of legal professionals and paraprofessionals with diverse backgrounds and skill sets who set an extremely high bar for provision of legal services.

Privacy Counsel Pay and Benefits:

  • Hourly pay: $110-120/hr (Pay varies based on the candidate's experience and location)
  • Worksite: Leading professional development and networking company (Hybrid - San Francisco, CA 94105 - Onsite 3+ days/week, days flexible)
  • W2 Employment, Group Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement Savings Program
  • 40 hours/week, 6 Month Assignment

Privacy Counsel Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and negotiating privacy terms within commercial agreements for company’s business in line with Company standards.
  • Collaborating with company’s Legal and other cross-functional teams to uphold privacy compliance and compliance with internal corporate policies and processes.
  • Teaming with other company attorneys and paraprofessionals to optimize support to the business.
  • Helping to educate the business teams on contractual, regulatory and compliance issues.

Privacy Counsel Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years' experience practicing as an attorney
  • 4+ years’ experience advising on privacy regulatory compliance
  • J.D. from an ABA - accredited law school
  • Candidates must be barred in California or registered as in-house counsel in the state.
  • Skilled in monitoring legislation, assessing new laws, scoping, and compliance planning for new privacy laws.
  • Familiarity with contract requirements related to privacy, like Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) or data privacy addendums, are highly valued.

Privacy Counsel Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven understanding of general commercial contracting and Data Processing agreements
  • Experience in the tech industry is preferred, and candidates from law firms with a concentration in privacy are also considered.
  • Familiarity with EU data protection law and other privacy regimes and experience with required privacy documentation (DPIAs and LIAs).
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with cogency & empathy.
  • Impeccable integrity, good judgment and well-honed analytical skills.
  • Ability to see the big picture and help scale legal support of a rapidly growing company.
  • Experience with GDPR is a strong plus, as it's foundational for privacy requirements globally. Knowledge of CCPA and other privacy laws is also beneficial.
