A leading university is seeking a Financial Manager. The successful candidate will lead and execute complex financial planning, analysis, and control functions to support strategic initiatives, manage multi-million-dollar budgets, oversee compliance and internal controls, and supervise finance staff while driving process improvements and organizational efficiency. Financial Manager Responsibilities:
- Develop complex budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans for centrally-managed programs, initiatives, and day-to-day operations.
- Manage and monitor the Division’s multi-million-dollar budget, identifying and resolving issues as they arise.
- Conduct in-depth financial and award analysis; synthesize and interpret large data sets to identify trends, develop solutions, and present actionable recommendations.
- Design and run ad hoc financial reports; create follow-up analyses and scenario modeling for strategic decision-making.
- Review, design, and implement internal control programs; ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Interpret complex financial regulations and develop or revise policies and processes accordingly.
- Supervise, train, and coach Finance staff; provide oversight and review of high-value and complex transactions.
- Lead unit or cross-functional projects; make informed decisions that affect policy, process, and operational effectiveness.
- Continuously evaluate existing financial systems and processes to identify inefficiencies and implement Lean process improvements.
- Define requirements, develop and execute test cases, perform testing, and analyze results for system/process enhancements.
- Oversee control functions for high-value Tier-2 agreements and ensure accuracy in high-dollar transactions.
- Manage quarterly faculty metric bonus programs, including calculations, validation, and disbursement.
- Represent the organization to internal client groups and external partners; serve as subject matter expert for complex financial matters.
- Provide training on financial systems and tools.
- Demonstrate analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Show initiative, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse teams and communicate financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Financial Manager Qualifications:
- 6 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree and Master's degree in finance, accounting, healthcare administration, MBA, or related field
- Expert knowledge and fluency of governmental regulations (Uniform Guidance, FAR, etc.)
- Experience with financial processes relating to clinical research, academic organizations, and/or academic medicine
- Proficiency in data management and analysis tools.
- Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; Oracle and SeRA experience is a plus.
- Ability to complete Cardinal Curriculum I and II within the first year in the role
- Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
