Job Description:   Systems Engineer (Level IV) – MS/Windows

An Atmosera Systems Engineer is part of a team of infrastructure professionals responsible for deploying and maintaining internal and customer hosting solutions running a variety of applications. The Systems Engineer provides technical support and technical consulting for Atmosera clients, assists in troubleshooting and maintaining hosting configurations. An Atmosera Systems Engineer can expect a dynamic allocation of their time based on client’s requirements and internal strategic initiatives.

Technical Requirements

  • Perform advanced engineering, design, development, configuration, installation, administration, maintenance and upgrades of a mix of the following hosting components:
    • Hyper-scale Public Cloud Experience (Azure, AWS or GCP)
    • Microsoft Cloud Platform (with Hyper-V)
    • VMware ESX (VSphere & VCenter)
    • NetApp & Pure storage offerings
    • F5, Array and Fortinet firewall and load balancers offerings
    • Various Linux distributions
    • Windows Server
      • Active Directory
      • SQL Server
      • IIS
  • Scripting and automating procedures and tasks;
  • Troubleshoot and advise on advanced operating systems problems for customer escalations and internal operations;
  • Remain informed of new developments and trends; make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments;
  • Tracking system capacity (CPU, memory, disk space, etc.) and reporting/correcting issues;
  • Installing software upgrades and security patches, and monitoring for intrusion signs;
  • Assessing where the systems performance/efficiency stands, compared to where it would need to be, and compiling recommendations on how to improve performance and efficiency;
  • Test systems and  software applications;
  • Create flowcharts, diagrams, and other documentation;
  • Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
  • Responding to inquiries from staff, clients and team members to provide technical assistance and support;
  • Perform as a trusted adviser for Atmosera staff and customers;
  • Assist in the development and training of other system engineers;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and third-party providers for services, equipment purchase, installation, and support. Evaluate cost, quality, and reliability of vendor products.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a large data center, preferably in an IaaS, SaS, co-location, or managed services environment;
  • The ability to perform engineering function with regards to managed hosting solutions;
  • Certifications in various technologies (Microsoft, Linux, VMWare, Cisco, etc);
  • Experience in an ITIL based Service Management;
  • Experience supporting a large, CIO led organization internally, and/or experience supporting multiple enterprise level customers;
  • Ability to work well in support role, project role and internal engagement role and take on leadership roles as needed within those endeavors;

 

Education/Work Experience

  • 7+ years experience in a technical organization, performing in a hands-on systems engineer role
  • A BS degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent on-the-job experience.

 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to manipulate computer keyboard/mouse and view computer screen, perform floor-to-ceiling equipment maintenance in a rack environment, work in narrow/confined spaces and lift 50 lbs.
