Responsibilities:  

The Director - Corporate Accounting is a high-profile position on our team thatreports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with the Managing Partners, Managing Directors, and Directors. This position is responsible for directing all corporate level accounting activities which includes the firm’s real estate investment funds and REIT structures and has the primary responsibility of ensuring the financial integrity of the investment funds’ and management company’s financial information. Duties include:

  • Supervise, manage, and direct day-to-day activities of the corporate accounting department and staff 
  • Oversee and ensure timely and accurate monthly close of the investment funds and REIT ledgers and creation of the consolidated financial statements of the investment funds including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement 
  • Work directly with Deloitte Tax and Elliott Davis on tax compliance and tax consulting projects 
  • Play a lead role in the Company’s financial reporting process including the preparation of the investment funds’ quarterly reports, investor statements, and annual audited financial statements 
  • Partner with the Director – Investment Accounting to ensure accurate reflection of all property level activity in the consolidated financial statements 
  • Work with external auditors on the execution of the annual financial statement audits of the investment funds 
  • Provide sound accounting and financial advice relative to potential financial implications of proposed transactions, acquisitions, and dispositions and interact with all levels within the Company to ensure proper recording of financial transactions 
  • Oversee technical research related to GAAP, NCREIF, and other reporting bodies 
  • Manage departmental projects that deploy updated processes and technology to create efficiencies and automate manual tasks 
  • Assist with corporate level business activities such as budgeting, forecasting, insurance, licensing and other state / local registrations 
  • Work closely with treasury management team on cash management and design / execution of cash controls 
  • Assist with special projects or tasks to support overall Company’s goals 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’sDegree in accounting; MACC or CPA or equivalent preferred 
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong supervisory skills with the ability to manage, motivate, mentor, and train employees 
  • Strong technical accounting skills with an understanding of US GAAP (fair value accounting preferred) 
  • Experience with private equity and REIT structures preferred 
  • Excellence in Excel and Word • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and capable of effective independent judgment
  • Acute attention to detail and passion for quality 
  • Strong organizational and process skills to manage multiple competing priorities 
  • Ability to meet and manage critical deadlines and to work independently 
  • Interested in process improvement and documentation
  • Limited travel
