Manufacturing & Engineering Internship at Railroad Manufacturer

Job Description

Company: 

Headquartered in Grass Valley, CA, Apex Rail Automation (Apex) manufacturers products for the railroads including main line switches, yard switches, rods and layouts, wayside electronics, dark territory switch control and solutions such as the Modular Yard Automation (MYA) system. The company supplies products and systems primarily to freight railroads, particularly Class 1 railroads (CSX, BNSF, UP, etc.).

Internship:

  • Starts at $1,000 per month 
  • Starts ASAP and runs through September
  • Successful interns will be offered full-time position

Responsibilities:

  • Drive implementation of new production software (Fishbowl) processes, tools, and reports 
  • Analyze and optimize inventory pick locations by key product categories
  • Assist with and optimize pre-production picking and kitting 
  • Move routers from old production system (QB) into new production system (Fishbowl)
  • Re-brand technical and engineering documents with new business name/logo
  • Conduct time studies on key manufacturing processes and update BOMs
  • Analyze and assess opportunity to bring certain outside services (plating, machining, heat treatment, etc.) in house as well as determine required equipment
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and help drive standard work across the shop floor

Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing systems (Fishbowl)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar fields

This role is a fulltime position reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations.
